    WHAT IT MEANS AND WHY IT'S IMPORTANT — If you were to tell me that 4-out-of-every-5 people would choose 90-day prescriptions available by pickup at the pharmacy versus 90-day prescriptions delivered through mail order — and for about the same cost — I would tell you that we need to find the fifth person and make sure that they're OK. They might be suffering from a medical emergency and could need our help. The publication of this study in a peer-reviewed journal, however, serves as proof of concept addressing two concerns — choice and plan cost.

  • Albertsons LLC exits Florida market in all but Orlando

    FORT WORTH, Texas — Albertsons LLC earlier this week announced the closure of 13 stores across the Sunshine State, leaving only four locations in the Orlando, Fla., area, according to published reports.

    The stores are expected to close in early June and will begin liquidation sales May 9.

    NEW YORK — After more than 1 million people voted in Walmart's "Get On The Shelf Competition," America has chosen its top 10 most innovative products it would like to see on Walmart's shelves. One of the winners is Bios Clinical Acne System, the brainchild of certified plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Mark Klapper, Bios Systems has announced.

    It carves out an entirely new niche in skin care called ProbioCosmetics, Bios Systems stated. Bios Clinical Acne System helps prevent and treat adolescent and adult acne.

  • Take Care Clinics offering Medicare wellness visits

    CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — Take Care Health Systems, which is owned by Walgreens, now is providing wellness services for Medicare enrollees at all Take Care Clinic locations throughout the country, the retail health clinic operator announced on Thursday.

    The Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visits and Medicare Yearly Wellness Visits are wellness services for Medicare enrollees, which include screenings for a number of common conditions, as well as education and counseling to encourage wellness and prevent disease.

  • Rite Aid posts strong Q4, FY2012

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Despite running fewer stores, Rite Aid grew its sales and narrowed its losses during the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2012, thanks to a boost in its loyalty card program membership, a longer fiscal year and the continuing dispute between Walgreens and Express Scripts.

  • Sam's Club opens its doors in Lubbock, Texas

    LUBBOCK, Texas — Sam's Club is expanding its presence in western Texas with the opening of a newly relocated store.

    The new club, located in Lubbock, Texas, measures approximately 136,000 sq. ft. — about one-third larger than the previous Sam's Club location — and has a more convenient location for the public due to easier vehicular access in and out of the club and ample parking. The new club will open April 19.

  • Cub Pharmacy to offer customers DPCA's diabetes control program

    MINNETONKA, Minn. — A Supervalu banner announced that it will offer patients access to a program created by UnitedHealth Group's Diabetes Prevention and Control Alliance.
