    NEW YORK — Demand for SeroVital-hgh — a proprietary amino acid compound developed by Sierra Research Labs — has spiked in the past month, in part due to recent exposure on news channels like CNN and on news programs like "The Today Show," the company announced last week. To help meet demand, the company on Dec. 21 announced distribution expansion through GNC.

    GOTHENBURG, Sweden — Researchers at the University of Gothenburg along with the Chalmers University of Technology earlier this month demonstrated that an altered gut microbiota in humans is associated with symptomatic atherosclerosis and stroke. 

    These findings were presented in a study published in Nature Communications on Dec. 4.

  • Dr Pepper Snapple Group to launch 10-calorie versions of its sodas

    PLANO, Texas — As an extension of Dr Pepper Ten, the soft drink company will launch 10-calorie versions of five of its biggest soda brands, beginning January 2013. Sunkist, 7-Up, Canada Dry, RC Cola and A&W Root Beer are all getting makeovers.

    Unlike other artificial sweeteners, the 10-calorie sweetener mix used by Dr Pepper Snapple Group contains enough high-fructose corn syrup to appeal to those consumers who have reservations about the taste of diet drinks, the company said.

  • Natural Grocers opens new store in Helena, Mont.

    HELENA, Mont. — A chain of natural foods stores is opening its third Montana location Monday.

    Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage announced the opening of the new store, in Helena, Mont., following stores in Billings and Missoula earlier this year. The 55-year-old Colorado-based chain offers only natural and organic products.

  • The Vitamin Shoppe to buy Super Supplements for $50 million

    NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — The Vitamin Shoppe will buy a Pacific Northwest-based supplement chain, the New Jersey-based company said.

    The Vitamin Shoppe said it would buy Super Supplements for $50 million. Super Supplements operates 31 stores in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, and the Vitamin Shoppe said the acquisition would expand its presence in the Northwest, where it already operates 17 stores. The transaction is expected to close on Dec. 31.

  • iSatori to launch new weight-loss supplement

    GOLDEN, Colo. — Supplement maker iSatori has launched a new weight-loss supplement product, the company said.

    BioGenetic Labs, a division of the company, announced Tuesday the pending launch of Belly-Off, a combination of conjugated linoleic acid, guarana, yerba mate and damiana designed to help users reduce belly fat. The company plans to start shipping the product this month and make it available at retailers nationwide in January 2013.

    PepsiCo's Tropicana brand is introducing a new way for moms to sneak veggies into their kids' diets: Farmstand, a fruit-and-vegetable drink to hit the refrigerated section of supermarkets in January.

  • Natural Products Association suspends 2013 MarketPlace show

    WASHINGTON — The Natural Products Association MarketPlace trade show will be suspended, the organization said, citing "new opportunities more strategically aligned with today's market needs."

    The convention had originally been scheduled for June 2013 in Las Vegas. The Natural Products Association and New Hope Natural Media have collaborated to produce the convention since 2008.
