    A lot has changed in the world of pharmacies over the last 50 years or so.
     
    Just ask Dennis Wiesner. 
     
    Wiesner, who until earlier this year was the senior director of pharmacy, privacy and government affairs at H-E-B, has seen a lot go on in this industry in a career that has lasted nearly half a century. Most of it, he said, is good for retailers and consumers. All of it has been interesting. 
     
  • EverlyWell jumps the ‘Shark’

    “Shark Tank,” the hit ABC television series, is paying off for EverlyWell, an at-home health testing company. EverlyWell founder and CEO Julia Cheek accepted a $1 million line of credit in exchange for 5% equity on the show that aired Sunday, Nov. 26. It is the largest valuation deal for a solo female entrepreneur in “Shark Tank” history.

  • Hy-Vee’s chief administrative officer retires

    After a 41-year career at Hy-Vee, the regional grocer’s vice chairman, executive vice president and chief administrative officer is retiring. As Andy McCann departs his position, the West Des Moines, Iowa-based chain has promoted Sheila Laing to the post from her position as chief human resources officer.

  • PQA, Tufts awarded AARP patient care grant

    This year’s AARP Quality Measures Innovation Grant has been awarded to Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) and Tufts Medical Center. Each of the companies will receive a grant of $150,000 along with access to OptumLabs’ data assets to develop innovative quality health measures that address important gaps in diabetes and cancer care.

  • CHPA recognizes Bayer for aspirin campaign

    Bayer Aspirin has been named the recipient of the Consumer Healthcare Products Association 2017 Industry Leadership Award for Advancing Self-Care. This recognition comes from the New Jersey-based company’s “The HeroSmiths” marketing campaign, which was aimed to educate people of the life-saving benefits of aspirin during a suspected heart attack.

  • Novo Nordisk, HITLAB announce finalists for diabetes solution challenge

    Five companies are close to winning $75,000 from the 2017 HITLAB World Cup of Voice-Activated Technology in Diabetes presented by Novo Nordisk. The Plainsboro, N.J.-based Novo Nordisk and innovation and teaching lab HITLAB launched the competition on Aug. 25, looking to find the best original ideas to help patients with Type 2 diabetes through improved healthcare access, delivery and outcomes, the companies said.

  • Fox News' Carlson to speak at NACDS Foundation Dinner

    The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation Dinner will feature Gretchen Carlson — host of Fox News’ “The Real Story” — as the event’s speaker. Carlson replaces “Saturday Night Live” head writer Colin Jost, who could no longer appear due to unforeseen circumstances, according to the Arlington, Va.-based trade group.
