  • Diplomat launches pharmacy tech certification program

    FLINT, Mich. — Diplomat Pharmacy announced Thursday that the Michigan Board of Pharmacy approved the company to offer a pharmacy technician training program with on-site exams. The program, which is offered exclusively to Diplomat employees, allows employees who complete it and the exam to be considered for state licensure. 
     
  • APhA launches opioid resource center

    WASHINGTON - In its ongoing work to curb the prescription drug and opioid abuse epidemic, the American Pharmacists Association announced Tuesday the launch of a resource center to serve as a one-stop shop for pharmacists interested in learning more about opioid use, abuse and misuse. The resource center will help educate pharmacists by identifying learning opportunities, highlighting clinical and patient resources and identifying tools that are useful when working with patients who are prescribed opioids.
     
  • Benzer Pharmacy opens fourth new store in 2016

    PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Benzer Pharmacy opened a new store here Tuesday, the chain’s fourth new store since the year began. The new location will offer specialty medications for such complex chronic conditions as HIV and rheumatoid arthritis. 
     
  • Purdue Pharma-led survey finds myriad errors in online resources

    STAMFORD, Conn. — Purdue Pharma released the results of a new Collaborative Compendia Review Project (CCRP) research study Tuesday, noting that it found misinformation among online drug information compendia (ODIC). The study, which was published online in the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, evaluated the accuracy and completeness of five commonly used resources: Medscape Reference, Lexicomp Online, Lexi-Drugs, Epocrates Online, Drugs.com and RxList.
     
  • FDA grants new indication for Novartis’ Afinitor

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has granted Novartis’ Afinitor (everolimus) tablets a new indication after giving it a priority review designation. The drug can now be prescribed to treat adults with unresectable, locally advanced of metastatic progressive, well-differentiated nonfunctional neuroendocrine tumors (NET) with lung or gastrointestinal origin.
