  • Study finds mass merchandiser private-label foods, beverages rival national brands

    ROCKVILLE, Md. — Walmart and Target are ramping up offerings of private-label products directed at multicultural and health-conscious consumers, according to a new study.

    The findings were part of a study by market research firm Packaged Facts on mass merchandisers, "The Supercenter Grocery Shopper: U.S. Consumer Patterns at Walmart, Target, Meijer and Fred Meyer." The report noted that mass merchandisers in recent years have marketed private-label food and beverage products that rival those of national brands in price, value and quality.

  • Pinnacle Foods rings NYSE Opening Bell to celebrate first day as public company

    NEW YORK — Parsippany, N.J.-based Pinnacle Foods — manufacturer and distributor of such food brands as Birds Eye, Duncan Hines, Vlasic, Mrs. Butterworth’s and others — opened for trading Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “PF” after its initial public offering.

    CEO Bob Gamgort, along with members of Pinnacle Foods’ leadership team, celebrated the company’s first day of trading by ringing the NYSE Opening Bell and visiting the trading floor to observe the stock opening.

    AVON, Ohio — ShurTech Brands, makers of Duck Tape, announced today a new Duck Tape print featuring the pop music group One Direction.

  • Giant-Carlisle collects $587,545 for hunger relief in late February, early March

    CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA's Giant-Carlisle banner raised nearly $600,000 for a hunger relief program in February and March, the supermarket chain said.

    Giant-Carlisle said customers at Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets donated $587,545 as part of the Bag Hunger campaign between Feb. 24 and March 9. Another campaign will take place in September.

  • Bumble Bee offers health, wellness tips with e-book

    SAN DIEGO — Bumble Bee Foods has introduced a quarterly e-book on health and wellness, the company said Wednesday.

    "BeeWell for Live — A Living Guide" offers wellness advice, tips and recipes created in collaboration with Bumble Bee registered dietitians Stephanie Clarke and Willow Jarosh, as well as fitness coach Jennifer Grayeb and celebrity chef Scott Leibfried.

  • Herdez expands cooking sauces line, eyes wider distribution

    LOS ANGELES — Herdez, a brand of MegaMex Foods, announced today four new Mexican Cooking Sauces currently lining shelves at Los Angeles-area Albertsons stores, as well as plans to increase distribution to Walmart stores nationwide by June.

    The four new sauces include:

    • Traditional Chipotle — Chipotle simply means "smoked chili pepper." Brown and shriveled chipotles are combined with the tomato, onion and vinegar.

  • Muscle Milk launches new Light Peach Mango ready-to-drink flavor

    BENICIA, Calif. — CytoSport, a sports nutrition company and parent company of the Muscle Milk brand, announced today it has launched a new Peach Mango flavor in its Muscle Milk Light 14-oz. ready-to-drink bottles. Peach Mango is the first Muscle Milk Light beverage option that is naturally flavored and sweetened with stevia, monk fruit and cane sugar.

  • Yoplait adds two seasonal flavors to lineup

    MINNEAPOLIS — After its fall season-inspired yogurts, Yoplait, a General Mills brand, is bringing two cocktail-inspired additions to store shelves this spring: Yoplait Light piña colada and Yoplait Original cosmopolitan-flavored yogurt.

    Yoplait Light piña colada contains 5 g of protein per 6 oz.-serving with 90 calories and Yoplait Original cosmopolitan contains 5 g of protein per 6 oz.-serving with 170 calories. Both flavors also are a good source of calcium and vitamin D.
