    ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Lipton is celebrating the feel-good moments of their tea fans with the launch of Liptagram, its first ever global photo contest allowing Lipton fans around the world to share and connect. Liptagram invites Lipton fans to creatively and visually share uplifting moments for the chance to win an all-expense paid trip to Kenya for two to visit Lipton's Rainforest Alliance certified tea estates. Consumers can upload images through Instagram, the world's largest photo sharing application now through March 2, 2013.

    EAST HANOVER, N.J. — Following a global celebration of its 100th birthday, Oreo launched its latest marketing campaign "Cookie vs. Creme," during America's biggest football game.

    The premiere of Oreo "Whisper Fight," which is the brand's first time advertising during the Super Bowl, kicked off a two-month program that focuses on the long-standing disagreement dividing Oreo fans — which part of an Oreo is the best, the cookie or the creme?

  • Unilever completes sale of Skippy brand to Hormel in most markets

    ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Unilever has mostly completed its sale of the Skippy peanut butter brand to Hormel Foods, the company said Friday.

    The conglomerate said it had completed the $700 million sale of the global business, except for China, where it remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close later this year.

    The two companies announced the deal on Jan. 3, including the brand's trademarks and two factories, in the United States and China.

  • Perrigo acquires Velcera pet care company

    NEW YORK — Leading private-label supplier Perrigo has acquired pet health company Velcera for $160 million.

    The deal follows last fall’s acquisition of Sergeants and signals Perrigo’s intent to accelerate growth in areas beyond its traditional businesses of consumer health care, nutrition products and prescriptions. Velcera is a pet health company best known for its PetArmor brand of flea and tick products that are widely available at retailers nationwide, much to the chagrin of veterinarians. PetArmor had sales of $60 million last year.

  • All American Pet Co. ships nutrition bars for dogs to Walmart

    LOS ANGELES — The All American Pet Co. said its new line of nutrition bars for dogs is on its way to Walmart.

    The company said Thursday that its three SKUs of NutraBars were on their way to "the world's largest retailer" for its first purchase order, though it didn't mention Walmart by name.

    "We can get the retailer, but we can't write the retailer's purchase order," AAPT CEO Barry Schwartz said. "We created the bar and have the capabilities to meet the demand."

  • YoCrunch launches Yopa! Greek yogurt brand

    NAUGATUCK, Conn. — YoCrunch has introduced a new line of Greek yogurt, the company said.

    Yopa! is described as an authentic, strained Greek yogurt whose name is a portmanteau of "Yo" for "yogurt" and the traditional Greek cheer for joy, "opa!"

    The company has hired 2012 Olympic gold medalist and Associated Press female athlete of the year Gabby Douglas to promote the brand.

  • Seattle Times: Is Amazon.com ready to take fresh produce service national?

    SEATTLE — A report published Monday in The Seattle Times queried whether Amazon.com was ready to take its own Internet-driven fresh offering, called AmazonFresh, out of "limited-test" mode to pilot mode or even full-out launch mode this year. 

    The report noted that Amazon had initially launched the service in 2007 and now services 80 area codes. 

  • Nonprofit supermarket aims to address food deserts in Philadelphia area

    NEW YORK — A hunger relief group serving Philadelphia and surrounding areas has hired a New York-based brand and retail design consultancy to design a prototype nonprofit grocery store to address food deserts.

    The agency, CBX, said the Philabundance had hired it to design the store, Fare & Square, which will open this summer in Chester, Pa.
