    ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Costco Wholesale's donations to a Washington state voter initiative that would legalize liquor sales by private retailers have broken state records, according to published reports.

  • Jack Link's Beef Jerky acquires distribution facility

    MINONG, Wis. — Jack Link's Beef Jerky has acquired an Underwood, Iowa-based distribution facility.

    The beef jerky brand said that the acquisition, which is expected to close at the end of next month, will boost the company's shipping, receiving and product merchandising support, as well as its distribution center and warehouse capacities, further positioning the brand for future growth.

    The facility is being acquired from party supplies merchant The Oriental Trading Co. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • Bartell touts 'next gen' store

    SEATTLE — Regional chain Bartell Drugs recently opened its "next generation" store format, a remodel of an existing store in Seattle's Roosevelt neighborhood. Developed in conjunction with Hartman Group, the store includes a "Fresh Beauty" cosmetics section with natural and organic product lines; a "Wellness Courtyard" for supplements, vitamins and healthy beverages; a "Sweets & Snacks" section with new displays and lighting; and an "Urban Market" the showcases unique and locally produced products.

  • Sunbelt supports NBCF through superhero-themed Facebook campaign

    COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. — Sunbelt Granola has launched a Facebook campaign to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

    Sunbelt said that its "Ka-Pink" social media campaign encourages Facebook fans to change their profile photos to one of three pink-themed superhero bodies. For every Facebook fan who "ka-pinks" their photo, Sunbelt also will donate $1 to the NBCF.

  • Report: Kraft, Wrigley to cut chewing gum package size, prices

    NEW YORK — Certain chewing gum companies are introducing smaller packs that will carry a lower price tag, according to a new report.

    According to MarketWatch, Kraft Foods is expected to introduce five-piece packs of Trident and Stride gums, which will cost 50 cents. Additionally, confectioner Wrigley, which is owned by Mars, is expected to roll out smaller and more affordable chewing gum in 2012.

    Kraft's gum portfolio includes Dentyne, in addition to Trident and Stride. Wrigley produces such brands as Big Red, Doublemint, Extra and more.

    More than two-thirds of moms who participated in a recent Abbott Nutrition survey revealed they have a picky eater, and 9-out-of-10 of these moms indicated they are unsuccessful at getting their picky eater to eat healthy and nutritious foods every day. To aid moms in their pursuit of healthy eating habits and restore order to the dinner table, Abbott earlier this year launched the PediaSure Mom Brigade, a team of real mom experts with experience in children’s health and nutrition.
