  • FDA proposes major revisions to Nutrition Facts Label

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday proposed to update the Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods to reflect the latest scientific information, including the link between diet and such chronic diseases as obesity and heart disease. The proposed label also would replace out-of-date serving sizes to better align with how much people really eat, and it would feature a fresh design to highlight key parts of the label such as calories and serving sizes.

  • Skinnygirl introduces water enhancers

    CARMEL, Ind. — Skinnygirl brand last week announced its latest take on low-calorie beverages — its new Skinnygirl Water Enhancers, which will launch in March at food retailers across the United States.

    The four flavors — White Cherry, Blueberry Acai, Pineapple Coconut and Fuji Apple — have 5 calories per serving. Each bottle of water enhancer contains 48 ml of flavoring, which is enough to turn about 24 glasses of water into a Skinnygirl beverage.

    PHILADELPHIA — In celebration of its centennial, Tastykake is releasing new, limited-edition Birthday Kake cupcakes, which combines confetti cake with chocolate-flavored icing and colorful sprinkles. The cakes are available in 12-count packs and hit store shelves on Feb. 25.
