  • Satisfaction study: Packaging can influence purchase intent, customer satisfaction

    RICHMOND, Va. — MeadWestvaco Corporation on Thursday launched its inaugural consumer satisfaction study, “Packaging Matters.” The study explores the role of packaging in product satisfaction as consumers purchase, transport, use and dispose of products across 10 different categories. 

  • WHO updates consumption guidelines for salt, potassium

    GENEVA — Adults should consume less than 2,000 mg of sodium, or 5 grams of salt, and at least 3,510 mg of potassium per day, according to new guidelines issued by the World Health Organization last week. A person with either elevated sodium levels and low potassium levels could be at risk of raised blood pressure which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.

    Currently, most people consume too much sodium and not enough potassium.

  • Pennsylvania to privatize wine, liquor sales in coming year

    HARRISBURG, Pa. — Wine and liquor next year may be available for sale in retail outlets, including pharmacy, across Pennsylvania. 

    Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett on Tuesday submitted the spending plan for the 2013/2014 state budget, which includes a provision to replace the more than 600 state liquor stores with twice as many privately run liquor and wine stores, according to an AP report published Tuesday by the Patriot News

    GLENDALE, Calif. — Nestle today announced new additions to its line of Valentine’s Day offerings.

    This season's collection includes the new Wonka Lik-M-Aid Fun Dip Mystery Flavor Valentine Exchange Kit. Returning this year are Lik-M-Aid Fun Dip Valentine Exchange Kit, Nestlé Crunch and Butterfinger Hearts, Wonka's best-selling Nerds , Pixy Stix, or Laffy Taffy Candy and Card Kits, Wonka Sweetarts Lollipops and Wonka Sweetarts Hearts.

  • SymphonyIRI: Merchandising support down across almost half of all categories, new media to blame

    CHICAGO — With the path to purchase evolving, merchandising has increased across just more than half of CPG categories and declined in 47% of categories, SymphonyIRI Group reported Tuesday. 

    The drug channel has seen the most erosion in merchandising support, with declines in 60% of the categories within the channel in 2012.

  • New study shows children who eat cereal for breakfast have lower body weight, BMI

    BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Parents searching for a healthy breakfast for their children should take another look at the cereal aisle.

    According to new research published in peer-reviewed healthcare journal Infant, Child, & Adolescent Nutrition (ICAN), children who start their day with a cereal breakfast - even if that cereal is presweetened - tend to have lower body mass indexes (BMIs) and less chance of being overweight or obese than children who eat other breakfasts or skip the meal entirely.
