Dollar General is offering same-day delivery of household essential items from more than 9,000 locations via DoorDash’s marketplace.

Michael Joyce has joined the company as its new senior vice president of supply chain strategy, inventory and demand management.

The Great Dollar General Book Match is a one-day event with the goal of filling school and library bookshelves across the country.

Dollar General and its Literacy Foundation are donating more than $3 million in youth literacy grants, which will support about 760 schools, libraries and nonprofits across the 46 states in which it operates, the company said.

Once the location in Idaho's Kootenai County opens by spring 2022, it will operate in 47 states.

For the quarter ended July 30, Dollar General's income was $637 million. Its sales went down 0.4% and same-store sales fell 4.7% but increased 14.1% on a two-year stack basis.

The retailer announced that it has donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross in order to support its own relief efforts and the organization’s Disaster Responder program.
