For a better shave and best practices to avoid ingrown hairs and razor burns, Dr. Love recommends five key steps to follow:
- Exfoliate with a gentle exfoliant before shaving.
- Use a high-quality shaving cream.
- Utilize a fresh blade, and change blades every five shaves.
- Make sure to rinse the blade between each swipe for a smooth surface.
- Apply a soothing lotion after shaving.
“A high quality Shave Butter that helps your razor effortlessly glide over skin and protects skin from irritation, and a Post-Shave Smooth Body Cream which contains hydrating butters for rich moisture and lightweight oils for breathable moisture,” said Dr. Love.

To ensure skin continues to stay hydrated. Dr. Love recommends utilizing a moisturizer with soothing ingredients.
“It’s important to soothe and hydrate the skin after shaving to prevent post-shave irritation. In the summer, you may prefer a light-weight moisturizer while in the winter a richer cream may be ideal. Regardless of the weight of the formula, make sure it includes barrier soothing ingredients like shea butter,” said Dr. Love
