  • Family Dollar supply chain executive resigns from post

    MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar Stores last week announced that Jeffrey Macak, EVP supply chain, has resigned from the company for personal reasons, effective Nov. 27. 

    The dollar store operator intends to conduct a search for Macak’s replacement.

    Macak had been named to the post in September. He had come from Bed Bath & Beyond, where he served as VP global supply chain for 13 years.

    NEW YORK — A bill that would implement federal tracking and tracing of drugs and strengthen federal regulations on pharmacy compounding has passed in the Senate and will go to President Barack Obama for his signature.

  • Family Dollar's Mike Bloom next top executive to go undercover for CBS' 'Undercover Boss'

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Family Dollar president and COO Mike Bloom will be featured on the CBS award-winning reality series, "Undercover Boss" this Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. EST. For the episode, Bloom went undercover in several Family Dollar stores and at one of the company's distribution centers, where he worked a variety of jobs alongside company team members. 

  • All American Pet Co. to sell NutraBars for dogs at Albertsons

    LOS ANGELES — Albertsons has placed an order for what is being called the "first true food bar" for dogs.

    All American Pet Co. said Friday it received an order from the grocer for NutraBars, which are designed to be high in protein and low in fat, and are made in the United States.

    The company said it also was expecting an order for Chewies Dog Treats, which are all-natural and made with peanuts, cheese and bacon. Albertsons, based in Boise, Idaho, operates 1,119 stores under 12 banners in 29 states.

     

  • Family Dollar opens 11th DC to support westward expansion

    ST. GEORGE, Utah — Family Dollar earlier this week celebrated the grand opening of its 11th distribution center in St. George, Utah. 

    “Opening our 11th distribution center is an important milestone for us,” stated Howard Levine, Family Dollar’s chairman and CEO. “This facility is ideally located to support our growth in the West, helping us keep our stores well-stocked as we continue to provide customers in this region with great value and convenience.”

  • Family Dollar opens store No. 8,000

    LANCASTER, S.C. — Family Dollar last week opened its 8,000th store here, the company announced.

    "Lancaster is  proud to have been selected as the site of Family Dollar's 8,000th store," stated Joe Shaw, Lancaster's mayor. "We look forward to partnering with Family Dollar to meet the retail needs of our citizens."

    "We have over 200 stores in South Carolina, so it certainly is a great fit for us to open this landmark store in the state," commented Howard Levine, Family Dollar chairman and CEO.
