    The first quarter of 2013 is looking strong since manufacturers have a number of new products on the market that have already proven popular with consumers.

    “Manufacturers have been spending on ads to drive sales, but there have also been some great products,” said Mike Govindani, president of Screen2Store. “The category was strong last year, and business is up again for 2013.”

    FakeTV, manufactured by Hydreon Corp., uses LEDs to simulate the light produced by a television set, using a built-in computer to produce effects that emulate variations in light and color that come from scene changes, camera pans, fades, flicks and on-screen motion.

  • New gel makes toilet paper emulate wet wipes, manufacturer says

    CANTON, Mass. — A new product is designed to make toilet paper mimic wet wipes while being easier to flush.

    Fresh Dab, introduced by a company of the same name, is a gel applied to toilet paper, which the company said would allow for better removal of residue than toilet paper alone, while also allowing toilet paper to break down as it normally would, unlike wet wipes that can clog sewage and septic systems.

  • Target price matches online retailers

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. has launched a campaign to price match online retailers, the mass-merchandise retailer said Tuesday.

    The Minneapolis-based retailer said it planned to price match online retailers like Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com and Toysrus.com year-round; Target stores would also price match items on the company's own website.
