  • 'Tis the season to be jolly: NRF places holiday sales growth at 36%

    WASHINGTON - The National Retail Federation announced earlier this week it expects sales in November and December, excluding autos, gas and restaurant sales, to increase a solid 3.6% to $655.8 billion — significantly higher than the 10-year average of 2.5% and above the seven-year average of 3.4% since recovery began in 2009.

    Additionally, NRF is forecasting non-store sales to increase between 7% and 10% to as much as $117 billion.

  • RetailNext: Black Friday no longer top retail sales day

    SAN JOSE, Calif. - Black Friday no longer reigns as the biggest shopping day of the year, RetailNext reported Thursday.

    That honor is now expected to be held by Dec. 23, as holiday shoppers fill their baskets with last-minute gifts to contribute to the biggest shopping day in terms of sales. The busiest shopping day in terms of store traffic - Super Saturday, Dec. 17 -  is expected to be driven by shoppers who don't literally wait until the last moment when it comes to gift gifing.

    CINCINNATI -- Walgreens is donating $50,000 to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Fund to help celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the program.

  • Coty completes P&G deal; Pane becomes CEO

    NEW YORK – Coty has completed its acquisition of Procter & Gamble's fine fragrance, color cosmetics, salon professional and hair color and certain styling businesses.

    Coty is now the third-largest beauty company in the world, with approximately $9 billion in revenue. As previously announced, following the completion of the merger, Camillo Pane became the new chief executive officer of Coty.

  • Unilever acquires Seventh Generation

    LONDON and ROTTERDAM, Netherlands — Unilever on Monday announced that it would be acquiring Vermont-based personal care and home product company Seventh Generation. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
