    PRINCETON, N.J. — Church & Dwight celebrated an earnings per share increase of 10% to $3.75 per share by ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange Tuesday.

    C&D posted 2010 sales increases of 2.7% to $2.6 billion.

  • Teva's Qnaze meets endpoints in phase-3 trial

    JERUSALEM — An investigational drug made by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries for treating allergies is safe and effective, according to results of a late-stage clinical trial announced Wednesday.

    Teva said the phase-3 trial of the nasally inhaled drug Qnaze (beclomethasone dipropionate) showed that it significantly relieved symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis compared with placebo while demonstrating a similar safety profile.

  • Pharmavite’s GreatMind claims vetted by NAD

    NEW YORK — The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus on Wednesday announced that Pharmavite is able to support advertising claims for the company’s NatureMade GreatMind dietary supplement, pursuant to NAD’s ongoing monitoring of advertising for dietary supplements.

    NAD, the advertising industry’s self-regulatory forum, reviewed claims that appeared in print and Internet advertising and on product packaging, pursuant to NAD’s ongoing monitoring of advertising for dietary supplements.

  • HHS secretary announced $750 million investment in prevention, public health

    WASHINGTON — Department of Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday announced a $750 million investment in prevention and public health, funded through the Prevention and Public Health Fund created by the new healthcare law.

    “Prevention is something that can’t just happen in a doctor’s office,” Sebelius said. “If we are to address the big health issues of our time, from physical inactivity to poor nutrition to tobacco use, it needs to happen in local communities.”

    At the third annual 2011 Product of the Year USA awards ceremony, Product of the Year unveiled the most innovative products of the year, voted by more than 60,000 American shoppers in a survey conducted by TNS, a custom research agency.

  • American Diabetes Association teams up with Together Rx Access

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Diabetes Association is working with an organization that offers free prescription drug savings cards to help increase access to diabetes medications.

    The ADA and Together Rx Access said Wednesday that the cards can help millions of eligible uninsured patients receive savings of 25% to 40% on branded drugs, as well as savings on generics. Nearly 26 million people in the United States are living with diabetes, mostly Type 2 diabetes, many of whom lack health insurance.
