    NEW YORK — New approaches to treating cancer are creating big growth opportunities for the pharmaceutical industry, Moody's Investors Service stated in a report released Thursday titled "Cancer Breakthroughs Bring New Options for Patients and Revenue Streams to Big Pharma." Drugs for the treatment of solid tumors in prevalent cancer types will serve a large and growing market, the report noted.

  • Sanrio, NCLA create exclusive Hello Kitty nail wrap collection

    LOS ANGELES — Sanrio, a global lifestyle brand best known for pop icon Hello Kitty, and nail fashion brand NCLA have partnered to release an exclusive collection of custom Hello Kitty nail wraps.

    Launching September, the collection will fuse the iconic style of Hello Kitty with NCLA’s creative flare for nail art. This collaboration is one of many partnerships this year designed to celebrate Hello Kitty’s 40th anniversary.

  • iHealth Lab launches smartphone-friendly blood-glucose monitor

    MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — iHealth Lab on Thursday announced the launch of the iHealth Align, one of the world's smallest, FDA-approved mobile blood-glucose monitors, the company stated. The meter plugs directly into a smartphone, and displays and stores readings using the iHealth Gluco-Smart app. By displaying readings directly on the phone screen, iHealth was able to shrink the device size to just slightly larger than the circumference of a quarter. The compact size and mobile sync capability make iHealth Align a small and powerful new tool for diabetes management.

  • Reynolds announces disposable bacon pan

    LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Reynolds Bakeware on Thursday announced its first disposable pan designed solely for the purpose of cooking bacon in the oven. The new pan makes the cooking process simpler and cleaner, the company said. Reynolds Bakeware Bacon Pan's ridges elevate the bacon strips and small holes inside the pan let hot grease drain into a liner.

    CHICAGO — A study published Wednesday on JAMA's website found that diabetes patients taking metformin had a higher risk of all-cause death when insulin was added to their treatment as compared to when sulfonylureas were added to treatment.

  • Auxilium, Prasco partner for generic Testim

    CHESTERBROOK, Pa. — Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, a specialty biopharmaceutical company, on Wednesday announced that it has partnered with Prasco to debut the authorized generic form of Testim gel, which is used to treat adult males with low or no testosterone.

    CHICAGO — Quaker Oats, a brand from PepsiCo, announced the introduction of Warm & Crunchy Granola, a hot cereal that delivers Quaker Oatmeal and the crunch of multigrain granola. The product maintains its crunch even after being heated with milk, the company said.
