  • FDA approves Lupin angina drug

    BALTIMORE — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic heart disease drug made by Lupin, the Indian drug maker said.

    Lupin said the FDA approved its ranolazine extended-release tablets in the 500-mg and 1,000-mg strengths. The drug is used to treat chronic angina.

    Ranolazine extended-release tablets are a generic version of Gilead Sciences' Ranexa, which had sales of about $443.4 million during the 12-month period that ended in March, according to IMS Health.

     

  • Electronic medical records boost patient satisfaction, loyalty, study finds

    CHICAGO — Nearly a quarter of Americans are using electronic medical records for checking test results, refilling prescriptions and making appointments, while more than half say they would like to use them, but don't have access, according to a new study.

    The study, by Aeffect and 88 Brand Partners, included 1,000 respondents ages 25 years to 55 years, finding that 24% of them used EMRs, while 52% would like to. At the same time, nearly half of patients take EMR access into consideration when choosing a healthcare provider.

  • GSK can ship four-strain flu vaccine

    PHILADELPHIA — The Food and Drug Administration has approved for shipment the latest version of a GlaxoSmithKline flu vaccine, the drug maker said Monday.

    The FDA approved the Fluarix Quadrivalent (influenza virus vaccine) for the 2013-2014 season for shipment to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention distribution centers and healthcare providers. GSK said this would be the first season in which vaccines protecting against more than three strains will be available.

  • Amneal introduces generics for HIV, potassium deficiency, other conditions

    BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Amneal Pharmaceuticals has introduced five new generic drugs, the company said.

    The drugs launched are:

    Potassium chloride extended-release capsules in the 750-mg strength and in bottle count sizes of 100, 500 and 1,000. The drug is a generic version of Nesher Pharmaceuticals' Micro-K10 ExtenCaps and used to treat potassium deficiency.

    Sildenafil tablets in the 20-mg strength and in 90-count bottles. The drug is a generic version of Pfizer's Revatio, used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.

  • New color scheme to set apart latest Duracell battery model

    BETHEL, Conn. — Duracell has introduced a new battery that it said would provide more power than previous models.

    The Procter & Gamble-owned brand announced the launch of Duracell Quantum, which includes a Hi-Density Core and PowerCheck per indicator. The battery is sold in a red and copper color scheme.

  • The Greek Gods brand introduces Honey Salted Caramel to 24 oz. yogurt lineup

    LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. — The Greek Gods brand introduced this week new Honey Salted Caramel yogurt. The new flavor will be available in the company's 24 oz. family-sized yogurt lineup.

    "The Honey Salted Caramel is a fitting flavor extension and great complement to the creamy texture and rich taste of our yogurt. It is sure to become a fan favorite," said Basel Nassar, chief operating officer of the Hain Refrigerated Foods Division.
