  • FDA approves new obesity drug

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new treatment for obesity in adults, the agency said Wednesday.

    The FDA announced the approval of Arena Pharmaceuticals' Belviq (lorcaserin hydrochloride), designed for use alongside reduced-calorie diets and exercise, for chronic weight management. Eisai will distribute the drug.

  • General Mills expands its Fiber One 90-calorie brownies line

    MINNEAPOLIS — General Mills on Wednesday announced the launch of its Fiber One 90-calorie brownies in a chocolate chip cookie flavor formulated with 5 g of fiber.

    Each chocolate chip cookie brownie is made with semisweet chocolate chips in a cookie-batter brownie, topped with a chocolatey drizzle and contains 20% of the daily value of fiber.

  • Reed's launches Culture Club Kombucha

    LOS ANGELES — Reed's has expanded its portfolio to include an organic kombucha beverage.

    Reed's Culture Club Kombucha will be introduced in four, ginger-based formulas: Goji ginger, cranberry ginger, lemon raspberry ginger and hibiscus grapefruit ginger.

    NEW YORK — Skin care brand Neutrogena in July will begin offering at retail its new ultra gentle daily cleanser.

    After years of perfecting the hydrophobically modified polymer technology launched in this cleanser, Johnson & Johnson scientists are now re-shifting the everyday cleansing approach with the launch, the company stated.

  • Gerber introduces Good Start Soothe formula

    FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Gerber has introduced a new infant formula that is designed to reduce excessive crying and colic in healthy infants.

    Gerber Good Start Soothe formula is milk-based and contains the probiotic L. reuteri, which aims to reduce crying time among colicky babies. The formula features the Comfort Proteins Advantage, which makes it easy for babies to digest, and also has a carbohydrate blend with 30% lactose for fussiness and gas in infants with lactose intolerance.

  • Sabona launches magnetic athletic necklace

    SIKESTON, Mo. — Sabona has introduced a magnetic athletic necklace to its product line.

    The necklaces feature 1,200 gauss magnets embedded in a black accent and are combined with minus ion producing materials in a colorful stretch fabric.

    "We introduced our first leather magnetic necklace at the beginning of 2012 and are pleased to introduce a sporty, casual necklace to the Sabona line," Sabona national sales manager Corey McNew said.

  • Supernus gets preliminary nod for epilepsy drug

    ROCKVILLE, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has given tentative approval to Supernus Pharmaceuticals for a drug to treat epilepsy, the company said Tuesday.

    Supernus announced the tentative approval was given to Trokendi XR (topiramate), a once-daily treatment for the seizure disorder. The company said final approval was conditioned on resolution of market exclusivity issues concerning certain pediatric populations.
