    DENVER — The effort by community pharmacy to rise to the occasion and showcase its life-saving and cost-reducing power in health care has never been stronger. That was a key message that National Association of Chain Drug Stores president and CEO Steve Anderson had for attendees of the NACDS Pharmacy and Technology Conference being held in Denver. However, he also warned against complacency.

    PHOENIX — Bloomberg has tapped a Symphony Health Solutions company to provide U.S. prescription audit data to Bloomberg's more than 310,000 professional service subscribers worldwide.

    Symphony Health Solutions said Source Healthcare Analytics' agreement with Bloomberg will provide Bloomberg professional subscribers with weekly and monthly retail, nonretail and mail-order prescription activity integrated directly into their workflow.

    This year’s Olympics coverage on NBC stood in stark contrast to the television network's failed attempt to offer expanded audience choice through their pay-per-view “Triplecast” in 1992. Remember that 20 years ago, NBC aired the Olympics through three pay-per-view channels? Their total number of subscribers, either for a one-day pass or any of the “gold,” “silver” or “bronze” packages probably couldn’t equal even the smallest service area for a major cable company.

    JOHNSON CITY, N.Y.  — Pharmacy automation manufacturer Innovation will supply pharmacy automation technology to the U.S. Navy, under a new deal between the two worth up to $49 million.

  • University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics adopts Voalte smartphone communication system

    SARASOTA, Fla. — A Midwestern hospital system will implement a system in which nurses, physicians and others will use smartphones for communications.

    Voalte, which develops a clinical communications system, said the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics would use its system to improve clinical workflow by using iPhones to merge voice, text and alarms, allowing patient care providers to send and receive high-definition voice calls, secure text messages and alarms on one device.

    NEW YORK — A company that provides an online store and management system for mobile health apps is piloting a program that allows physicians and other health practitioners to electronically prescribe medical, health and fitness apps for patients.
