  • House GOP pulls ACA replacement bill ahead of vote

    WASHINGTON — After a week spent trying to whip the 215 votes needed to pass the American Health Care Act — the House GOP replacement for the Affordable Care Act — Republican leadership withdrew the bill from consideration Friday afternoon, sending the House into recess. Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., held a press conference in which he explained his rationale for pulling the bill, noting that he spoke to President Donald Trump before doing so and the president agreed with the decision.

  • Legislation to expose PBM rebates filed in Senate

    WASHINGTON — Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., along with Sens. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., on Wednesday introduced legislation that would, for the first time, require Pharmacy Benefit Managers in Medicare to disclose their aggregate rebates provided by drug manufacturers, as well as the amount of those rebates that are passed on to health plans, therefore lowering prices for people who need prescription drugs.

    BALTIMORE — Researchers from Johns Hopkins Medicine on Tuesday made the case for the Rx-to-OTC switch of oral contraceptives.

    Moreover, the experts reported, the evidence also supports OTC access for teens and adult women, citing studies showing that teens are capable of safely and properly using "the pill" to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
