  • Walgreens adds almost 1,000 medication disposal kiosks into stores

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Healthcare organizations AmerisourceBergen, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Pfizer and Prime Therapeutics on Tuesday joined Walgreens to combat the national opioid abuse crisis by expanding the availability of safe medication disposal kiosks to an additional 900 Walgreens stores near military bases and other areas where the opioid epidemic has challenged communities.

    When the expansion is complete, kiosks will be available in approximately 1,500 Walgreens stores nationwide.

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — In celebration of American Pharmacists Month, this October Rite Aid is recognizing its more than 11,000 pharmacists for all they do to care for their patients and communities throughout the year.

  • Target pilots curbside pick-up

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target is testing curbside pickup in its home base.

    The discounter has launched the service, called Drive Up, at its stores in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The retailer described the program as the latest example of how Target is using its stores as hubs to help customers shop “on their own terms.”

  • Walmart makes last-mile delivery acquisition in NYC

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart is determined not to be bested by Amazon when it comes to same-day delivery.
     
    The discounter announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Parcel, a last-mile delivery startup that specializes in delivery of perishable items and general merchandise to customers in New York City. Operating out of a warehouse in Brooklyn, Parcel delivers goods the same-day, overnight and in scheduled two-hour windows, providing customers with live updates via text messages throughout the delivery process. 
  • The Jean Coutu Group acquired by Metro

    MONTREAL — Metro on Monday announced a deal to acquire the Jean Coutu Group for $3.6 billion, creating for a combined food and pharmacy retailer with annual sales of $12.8 billion. As part of the deal, Metro will acquire more than 400 Canadian drug stores and a distribution center.

  • Walgreens, Kroger contribute to Hurricane Maria relief efforts

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Walgreens has committed to a $250,000 donation to American Red Cross Hurricane Maria relief efforts, the retailer announced Monday. In addition, Walgreens customers can also donate to Red Cross hurricane relief efforts at approximately 8,000 Walgreens and Duane Reade locations throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Customers can make donations at store checkout.

  • Anlit launches Omega Bites under Meijer own brand umbrella

    TEL-AVIV, Israel — Anlit on Monday introduced Omega Bites under the Meijer supermarket's children's label. Omega Bites are a high-DHA+EPA omega-3 supplement in a single, fish-shaped orange-chocolate flavored chewable for children.

    MEDINA, Ohio —  As an answer to a dated, commoditized pharmacy experience, Ritzman Pharmacy is launching new products and services to better align with the actual role pharmacists play in the lives and wellness of patients with a series of comprehensive wellness assessments, the Ohio retailer announced Friday.
