  • CVS Health brings all-girls softball team to Fenway Park

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health and the Boston Red Sox on Monday teamed up to bring an all-girls softball team to Fenway park for the CVS Health Batting Camp. Members of the Suffield, Conn., Pink Pugs got to learn from Red Sox hitting coach Chili Davis and assistant hitting coach Victor Rodriguez, completed an on-field batting practice, posed for photos in front of the Green Monster, and had lunch in the Red Sox dugout.

  • Generation Z likely won’t be the death of brick-and-mortar

    NEW YORK — The most digitally savvy generation to date has a soft side for physical stores. 
     
    Despite being digital natives, 57% of Generation Z say they prefer to shop in-store rather than online, according to a report from CrowdTwist, a provider of multi-channel loyalty and engagement solutions. 
     
  • Amazon remains committed to innovating in grocery delivery, payment

    SEATTLE — Don’t expect Amazon to stop experimenting with cashier-less grocery stores anytime soon.
     
    Despite announcing in June it would acquire Whole Foods Market for $13.7 billion, the online giant will continue evolving its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go concepts, among other efforts. Its goal: to reinvent the way consumers shop for food, according to Business Insider.

    CHICAGO — On Tuesday, higi, owner of the largest FDA-cleared, retail-based, self-screening network and consumer engagement platform in North America, announced  a new partnership with the Washington Redskins. The partnership offers the football team’s fans the opportunity to enter unique monthly health and fitness challenges through higi health stations and its online platform.

  • Publix cuts stock price as Q2 sales increase

    LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida's largest supermarket chain on Tuesday reported higher sales and revenues for its second quarter. Prior to releasing its results, the company cut the price of its stock.

    Publix’s sales in the second quarter rose 3.6% to $8.4 billion, from last year’s $8.1 billion. Same-store sales increased 1.6%.  

    Net earnings increased 3.5% to $495.1 million, compared to $478.2 million in the year-ago period. 

  • Brick-and-mortar beauty growth shakes up industry

    PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Multi-brand and vertically integrated beauty stores are shaking up the beauty industry — and growing at a rapid rate.
     
    With hundreds of new doors opening in various formats, such cosmetics specialty and vertically integrated stores as Ulta, Sephora, Bluemercury, NYX, Kiko Milano, and e.l.f., have grown at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 19% over the past five years, according to a report by research and consulting firm Kline. Such stores now account for an estimated 20% of total beauty market sales.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart sees Q2 sales growth

    BRAMPTON, Ontario — Shoppers Drug Mart parent company Loblaw recently shared its second-quarter financial results, posting increases in same-store sales for the drug store chain. Its Loblaw grocery chain saw modest sales growth, due largely in part to the timing of Easter.

  • Food Lion completes 93-store revamp, hires 1,000 associates

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Ahold-Delhaize’s Food Lion division is set to unveil a new shopping experience for customers in 93 Greensboro, N.C.-area stores with celebrations on Aug. 2. The company has invested $178 million in remodeling the stores, lowering prices and hiring associates, as well as donating to local community efforts 
     
    The company will be giving away $10 gift cards and thermal tote bags to the first 100 customers at the revamped locations following a 7:45 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony.
