    VANCOUVER, British Columbia — London Drugs last week introduced for the first time a new full-service optical clinic into one of its locations in Vancouver’s Park Royal Shopping Centre. Drug Store News obtained some of the first pictures from the grand opening.

  • Jean Coutu adds Clinique skincare to its drug store lineup

    VARENNES, Quebec — The Jean Coutu Group on Friday announced that the high-end Canadian skin care brand Clinique would be available across its 418 outlets. "We are pleased to offer Clinique products, previously available only in large centers, over a wider territory," stated Christian Comtois, senior manager cosmetics, Jean Coutu Group.

    Jean Coutu will carry skincare lines such as the 3-Step system, Acne Solutions products and the men's line, representing the Smart franchise and anti-aging skincare options.

  • Giant to offer free health screenings

    LANDOVER, MD. — GIant will offer free health screenings at select pharmacies on May 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., where consumers can receive blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings. Giant pharmacists can also help determine if customeers need any recommended adult vaccinations.

    Food retailer Aldi is known for its low prices, high quality, small stores and exclusive brands. But it represents something else as well.

    The company is one of the best U.S. examples of a retailer that combines discount pricing with a big commitment to health and wellness. The impact is fairly large because this global company operates more than 1,600 stores across the United States, and is on a growth spree with remodels and newly added stores.

  • Weis Markets reports Q1 sales increase of 15.4%

    SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets earlier this week reported a sales increase of 15.4% to $852.2 million in the first quarter. Comparable store sales, adjusting for the New Year's and Easter holiday shift in 2017, increased 1.1%, the company reported, representing the grocer's 12th consecutive quarter of increased comparable store sales.

    During the 13-week period ended April 1, net income declined 41.2% to $11.8 million while earnings per share totaled $0.44 compared to $0.75 in 2016.

  • NCPA reaches out to Senate Republicans regarding AHCA

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Community Pharmacists Association on Thursday urged Senate Republicans to keep a number of important prescription drug-related provisions as they consider House passage of H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act.

    “Prescription drug coverage is an essential health benefit,” stated Douglas Hoey, CEO NCPA. “Any meaningful drug coverage should include patient choice of pharmacy and access to face-to-face counseling with a community pharmacist they know and trust.”

  • London Drugs debuts optical clinic and wellness learning lab in latest renovation

    VANCOUVER, British Columbia — London Drugs on Friday debuted its latest renovated pharmacy in Park Royal, which includes the unveiling of Optical London Drugs, a full-service optical clinic staffed by licensed optometrists.
