  • Kmart Pharmacy to conduct free memory screenings in May

    NEW YORK — Kmart Pharmacy and The Alzheimer's Foundation of America have expanded their partnership, whereby Kmart will conduct free memory screenings in all of its locations throughout the country and Puerto Rico during "Older Americans Month" in May. 

    In addition, Kmart will again conduct memory screenings in November during Alzheimer's Awareness Month. 

  • M&M’s efforts stoke excitement for Red Nose Day

    HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — In the lead-up to the third annual Red Nose Day, Mars Chocolate North America’s M&M’s brand is working to raise money for kids in need. The brand is rolling out a new vending machine at various Walgreens that dispenses coupons to raise donations and awareness in exchange for a funny face, a silly dance or great joke, the company said.

    M&M’s also will donate more than $1 million to the Red Nose Day fund to support programs for children, kicking off its efforts with a New York City flash mob on May 1.

  • Publix reports 2017 Q1 sales decline

    LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix reported sales for its 2017 first quarter were $8.69 billion, a 0.4% decrease compared to from last year’s $8.72 billion, while comparable-store sales for the first quarter of 2017 decreased 2.1%.

    Sales for the first quarter of 2017 were negatively impacted by the Easter holiday being in the second quarter in 2017 versus the first quarter in 2016. The company estimates the timing of Easter affected sales by approximately 1.2 percent.

    BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons’ Jewel-Osco division has a new executive at the helm. The company has named Doug Cygan division president, effective immediately, overseeing 186 stores in Ill., Ind. and Iowa.
     
  • NCPA's Congressional Pharmacy Fly-In resulted in more than 600 interactions

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Community pharmacists stormed the nation's capital for two days this week, generation more than 600 interactions with lawmakers around the value of community pharmacy.

    “It’s been a great week for community pharmacy patients,” stated Douglas Hoey, CEO NCPA. “Independent pharmacists have been their advocates for real solutions to the problems of medication access and affordability they face. And it’s clear that Congress is listening.”

  • ShopRite joins Aetna’s national network of preferred pharmacies

    KEASBEY, N.J. — ShopRite has joined Aetna’s national network of preferred pharmacies. Effective immediately, Aetna Medicare members with drug coverage can fill their prescriptions at preferred copay levels at any ShopRite pharmacy.

    According to ShopRite, this means Aetna Medicare customers can get their prescriptions at low, preferred cost shares while they shop at ShopRite pharmacies.

  • Weis Markets commits $90 million toward growth initiatives

    SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets on Friday announced plans to invest $90 million in 2017 toward growth, including investments in new stores, remodels, supply chain improvements and continued information technology upgrades.
