  • Rexall welcomes expansion of 13 vaccinations available through retail pharmacy in Ontario

    MISSISSAUGA, Ontario  — Rexall pharmacists in Ontario are now permitted to administer 13 more vaccinations that prevent shingles, hepatitis and cervical cancer, as well as several vaccines to people that are travelling overseas.

  • CVS to save $3B over five-year period with streamlining initiative

    NEW YORK — CVS Health will embark on a three-step streamlining initiative with a goal of saving approximately $3 billion from 2017-2021. Two-thirds of the savings will be seen in CVS’s retail/long-term care segment, with the remaining one-third of savings seen in the pharmacy benefits manager category.

  • CVS Health to Wall Street: ‘We own the last mile of care’

    NEW YORK — “We own the last mile of care.”
     
    That was perhaps the biggest takeaway Larry Merlo, president and CEO of CVS Health, delivered to Wall Street Thursday morning, during the company's annual analyst day presentations in New York. This last mile of care comprises the company's specialty, mail, retail pharmacy, retail clinics, long-term care and infusion service capabilities, Merlo explained.
     
  • Walgreens releases first flu index for the season

    DEERFIELD, Ill.  — Walgreens on Thursday launched its first Flu Index for the 2016-17 season, a weekly report that ranks the top markets and states for flu activity in the U.S. It's the third year for Walgreens' Flu Index, and this year will include Puerto Rico for the first time.

  • McKesson cleared to acquire Rexall Health

    SAN FRANCISCO  — McKesson on Wednesday announced that it has signed a consent agreement with the Competition Bureau of Canada allowing it to proceed with the acquisition of Rexall Health (inclusive of Rexall/Pharma Plus, Medicentres Canada and Claimsecure). McKesson expects to close the transaction as expeditiously as possible subject to certain closing conditions.

  • Amazon executes first drone delivery

    CAMBRIDGESHIRE, England — Amazon executed its customer drone delivery — comprising an Amazon Fire device and popcorn — here on Dec. 7.

    According to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the service, called Amazon Prime Air, took 13 minutes from click to delivery with a customer identified as Richard B. receiving the package.

    “First-ever #AmazonPrimeAir customer delivery in the books,” Bezos wrote on Twitter.

  • NPAC advocates separation of medical and recreational cannabis

    TORONTO  — The Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada on Tuesday applauded the federal government's Task Force on Marijuana Legalization and Regulation for recognizing the need to preserve the system of medical cannabis separate from the recreational system.

    In its report released yesterday, the Task Force clearly noted Neighbourhood Pharmacies' proposition that medical cannabis is a serious drug and that Canadians expect that strength and packaging standards applied to prescription medications be applied to cannabis.

  • CVS to open new Kansas City distribution center

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, here CVS comes.

    The Kansas City Development Council announced Wednesday that CVS Pharmacy will build a 762,000-square-foot distribution center at Kansas City’s Skyport Industrial Park. A ground breaking for the 71-acre facility, located at 108th Street and North Congress near Kansas City International Airport and Interstate 29, is expected to take place in January, and construction is expected to commence immediately.
