  • Kroger drives Q3 sales up 5.9% in 'difficult operating environment'

    CINCINNATI -- Kroger on Thursday reported a total sales increase of 5.9% to $26.6 billion for the third quarter ended Nov. 5. Total sales, excluding fuel, increased 7.1% in the third quarter compared to the same period last year. Total supermarket sales, excluding fuel and Roundy's, increased 1.6% in the third quarter compared to the same period last year.  

  • Costco November comps up 1%, net sales up 3%

    ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Costco reported a jump in comps of 1% and a boost in net sales of 3% to $9.68 billion for the month of November.

  • Beauty retailer on fast track

    The fast-growing NYX Cosmetics has opened a store at Brea Mall in Brea, Calif.

    The Los Angeles-based cosmetics brand opened its first brick-and-mortar location in 2015. It currently operate 23 locations throughout the United States.

    Menemsha Solutions provided both architecture and construction for the new store. 

  • Meijer hosts 'Shop With a Hero' event

    ALPENA, Mich. — Meijer and local heroes, including area police, firefighters and athletes, came together this week to make the holidays brighter for thousands of children.

    Each holiday season, Meijer hosts “Shop with a Hero” events, which pair underprivileged children with area heroes to shop for holiday gifts for themselves and their families.

  • CVS to open first standalone Colorado location

    DENVER — CVS Health plans to open its first standalone CVS Pharmacy in Colorado in 2017, spokeswoman Stephanie Cunha confirmed to the Denver Post.

    No other details were available, but the news outlet reported the location will be in Denver, likely on a 1.1-acre parcel. Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS owns at West 38th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard in Denver’s West Highland neighborhood.

    CVS entered Colorado for the first time earlier this year via its acquisition of Target in-store pharmacies.

  • Fruth Pharmacy adds pharmacogenetic offering to its list of services

    POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. -- Fruth Pharmacy on Wednesday announced its pharmacies will now offer Rxight, a broad, comprehensive pharmacogenetic program. The program, developed by MD Labs, will help determine if the medications people take and the dosage levels are right for them based on their DNA. Rxight covers more than 200 prescription and over-the-counter medicines.

  • Albertsons reportedly in talks to acquire Price Chopper

    NEW YORK — Albertsons and Price Chopper reportedly might be nearing a deal for Albertsons to buy the Schenectady, N.Y.-based supermarket chain for about $1 billion. Reuters broke the news Wednesday that the companies were in talks, citing sources familiar with the matter. 
     
  • BJ's Wholesale Club members can now 'Run on Dunkin'

    CANTON, Mass. — BJ's Wholesale Club will open Dunkin Donuts restaurants in its clubs throughout the Metro New York area.

    The new full-service restaurants will offer Dunkin' Donuts' complete menu of food and beverages including new items such as Cold Brew, seasonal Crème Brulée and Peppermint Mocha Macchiatos, Lattes and Coffee, and Boston Kreme Croissant Donuts.
