  • Retail pharmacy operators Wegmans, Publix named 'Best Companies to Work For'

    NEW YORK - Both Wegmans and Publix were named to Fortune's 2016 top-100 list of "Best Companies to Work For," and both grocers have placed in the top 100 for the past 19 consecutive years. 
     
    Both Wegmans and Publix are two of 12 companies that have earned spots on Fortune's "Best Companies" list every year since the list began. 
     
  • Delhaize America 2015 sales up 2.2%

    BRUSSELS - Delhaize America on Thursday reported revenues of $17.8 billion for 2015, an increase of 2.2% compared to 2014 in local currency excluding a 53rd trading week in 2014. 
     
    Comparable store sales growth in 2015 was 2.2%.
     
  • Kroger continues comps streak, plans capital expenditure surge

    CINCINNATI — The lack of food price inflation which has affected the performance of many grocers had little impact on fourth quarter results at Kroger’s, a company whose string of quarterly same store sales increases has now entered its 13th year.

  • Fred's credits health and beauty, specialty Rx for 12% Feb. sales lift

    MEMPHIS — Fred’s continues to see sales increases as 2016 continues. The company reported Thursday that for the four weeks ending Feb. 27, it saw net sales of $171.1 million, a 12% increase over the same period last year. The announcement follows January’s sales, which also increased 12% over the same four weeks in 2015. Comparable store sales rose 0.8% for the month, compared to flat comps in February 2015. 
     
  • Flu levels remain high across southern and western U.S., Walgreens Flu Index finds

    DEERFIELD, Ill. - The level of flu continues to be high across Arizona, Texas and Mississippi, according to the lateset Walgreens Flu Index released Thursday. Looking forward, for the week of Feb. 28 the top three states experiencing the greatest flu activity gains included Mississippi, Kentucky and South Carolina. 
     
    The Walgreens Flu Index does not provide data measuring actual levels or severity of flu activity, but rather, illustrates which populations are experiencing the most incidences each week based on Index methodology.
  • APhA launches opioid resource center

    WASHINGTON - In its ongoing work to curb the prescription drug and opioid abuse epidemic, the American Pharmacists Association announced Tuesday the launch of a resource center to serve as a one-stop shop for pharmacists interested in learning more about opioid use, abuse and misuse. The resource center will help educate pharmacists by identifying learning opportunities, highlighting clinical and patient resources and identifying tools that are useful when working with patients who are prescribed opioids.
