As pharmacy margins continue to shrink a little each year, a pharmacist in Seattle has discovered how to expand pharmacy margins through the incorporation of clinical services from Cardinal Health while shrinking something else — her customers’ waistlines.

The state regulatory environment is on its way toward becoming friendlier to telepharmacy, or the practice of providing pharmaceutical care via telecommunications to patients at a distance, especially those patients living within a “pharmacy desert.”

A telepharmacy operates like a traditional pharmacy except the pharmacist reviews prescriptions and counsels patients from a remote location.

As part of the DSNTV’s Executive Viewpoints series of interviews conducted at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Annual Meeting, DSN caught up with Piping Rock Health Products SVP sales and marketing Kimberly Vigliante to talk about the high-growth aromatherapy segment.
