  • Allergan, Amgen submit application for possible Avastin biosimilar

    THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Amgen and Allergan on Wednesday announced their submission of a biologics license application to the Food and Drug Administration for ABP 215, a potential biosimilar of Avastin (bevacizumab). The companies said ABP 215 is the most advanced of the four oncologic biosimilars they are developing, and they believe it’s the first submission for an Avastin biosimilar. 
     
  • Shire launches Cuvitru

    LEXINGTON, Mass. — Shire on Wednesday announced the launch of its Cuvitru (immune globulin subcutaneous (human) 20% solution). The drug, which was approved in September, is indicated to treat adult and pediatric patients aged two years and over with primary immunodeficiency — a group of more than 300 genetic disorders that prevent the immune system from functioning properly. 
     
  • Avella Specialty Pharmacy acquires Oncology Plus

    PHOENIX, Ariz. — On the heels of its announcement that it had hired a new medical advisor, Avella Specialty Pharmacy on Monday announced that it had acquired Oncology Plus, a Tampa, Fla.-based  provider of patient-specific compounded therapies. Avella said that the acquisition would further its strategic vision to become the nation’s leading omni-site specialty pharmacy and add breadth to its compounding and oncology-focused capabilities and offerings. 
  • AmerisourceBergen to build corporate campus in Texas

    CARROLLTON, Texas — AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group recently announced that it would be building a 300,000-sq. ft. corporate campus at the Offices of Austin Ranch here, which will make it one of the largest employees in Carrollton. It will serve as AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group’s new regional headquarters. 
     
  • Walgreens: HIV-specialized pharmacies improve adherence, save money

    ATLANTA - Patients using HIV-specialized pharmacies were more likely to use regimens on guideline with HHS recommendations than those not using HIV-specialized pharmacies (81.6% as compared to 76.9%), according to a Walgreens study presented this week before the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care 2016 conference here.

  • Avella Specialty Pharmacy adds medical advisor

    PHOENIX, Ariz. — Avella Specialty Pharmacy has added Dr. Joel V. Brill as a medical advisor, the organization announced Friday. Brill will bring more than 30 years of clinical and leadership experience, as well as expertise in value-based care and advanced payment models to the company. 
     
  • Mylan, Biocon submit application for Herceptin biosimilar

    PITTSBURGH and BENGALURU, India — Mylan and Biocon on Tuesday announced that they had submitted a biologics license application to the Food and Drug Administration for their proposed biosimilar of Herceptin (trastuzumab). The companies believe their submission has the potential to be the first of a proposed biosimilar for the drug in the United States. 
     
  • McKesson Specialty Health’s solution center gets BenchmarkPortal certification

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — McKesson Specialty Health on Thursday announced that for the eighth year running, its Reimbursement, Access & Safety Services Solution Center has been certified as a Center of Excellence by call center research and consulting organization BenchmarkPortal.
