  • Walgreens helps underwrite CDC Foundation's HIV research

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Following last year’s impactful collaboration between Walgreens and the CDC Foundation addressing the Zika outbreak, the two organizations on Wednesday announced they are once again working together to help address another public health challenge — this time HIV prevention.

  • CVS Pharmacy introduces health-and-wellness vending machines

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Pharmacy is rolling out a new way for busy patients to easily buy on-the-go necessities. The company on Thursday introduced its automated retail vending machines, which contain such necessities as over-the-counter health products, better-for-you snacks and popular personal care products, and will be used as a vehicle to showcase products from the company’s exclusive store brands while meeting customers at well-trafficked areas.

  • Fred’s posts net loss in Q2, names new chairman

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred’s Pharmacy on Wednesday posted its financial results for its second quarter and the six-month period, both of which ended July 29 and saw the company posting net losses, as well as a dip in net sales. The company also appointed a new chairman, naming Heath Freeman to the position as Tom Tashjian retires, effective immediately.

  • Ken Martindale departs Rite Aid, company names new COO

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has announced that president of Rite Aid and CEO of Rite Aid stores Ken Martindale, will leave the company, effective immediately, to assume his new role at the helm of GNC as CEO. Rite Aid also announced it has promoted Bryan Everett, currently EVP in charge of store operations, to the newly created position of COO Rite Aid stores. 

  • Kroger dispatches resources to Texas region impacted by storm

    CINCINNATI — As of Tuesday, 108 of 110 Kroger stores in the Gulf Coast region have re-opened and are back to normal operating hours, the company reported.

    The two stores that are closed due to flooding are the Champion Forest/Cypresswood and Cypresswood/Hwy 249 stores. They are in the process of being restored to reopen and serve these very impacted communities.

  • CVS Pharmacy kicks off annual Project Health screening campaign

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health is bringing its annual free health screening campaign, Project Health, to 11 markets this year, delivering more than $5 million worth of health services to patients. From Sept. 7 through Dec. 17, CVS Pharmacy locations will host Project Health walk-in events at stores in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Forth Worth, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., as well as select stores in Puerto Rico.

  • Kroger names new Michigan division president

    CINCINNATI — Kroger on Tuesday announced the retirement of Michigan division president Jayne Homco, and the promotion of Scott Hays to succeed her. Hays currently serves as VP operations for the company's Fry's division.

    Homco will retire from the company after 42 years of distinguished service, effective Sept. 30. Hays succeeds Homco as president of the Michigan division, effective Oct. 1.

  • J.D. Power pharmacy rankings take downturn on negative Rx price perception

    COSTA MESA, Calif. — The U.S. pharmacy industry, perennially one of the highest-scoring industries measured by J.D. Power, experienced notable declines in overall customer satisfaction this year, the research firm reported Tuesday. According to the J.D. Power 2017 U.S. Pharmacy Study, decreases in satisfaction with both brick-and-mortar and mail order pharmacies were driven primarily by declines in satisfaction with cost.
