  • McMillon highlights associates’ contributions at Walmart shareholders meeting

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart is no stranger to innovation, but when defining the secret to the company’s success, Walmart’s chief executive Doug McMillon told shareholders at the company's 47th Annual Shareholders Meeting that he doesn't have to look far. He just has to look within the company’s proverbial four walls.

    During the event, McMillon said Walmart has “started to invent the future of shopping again.”

  • CVS acquires Doc’s Drugs’ 14 stores

    WOONSOCKETT, R.I. — CVS Pharmacy is acquiring all 14 Illinois locations of Braidwood, Ill.-based Doc’s Drugs, the two companies announced recently. CVS Pharmacy said it plans to convert and rename the pharmacies by mid-July, and that it expects to retain as many of the Doc’s Drugs employees at the locations as possible.

    CHICAGO — As Susan G. Komen Chicago works toward its goal of cutting the number of breast cancer deaths in half by 2026, the organization has kicked off a collaboration with Walgreens to encourage mammograms. The organization and the retailer, alongside major Chicago-area healthcare providers, are collaborating on Rewards for Mammograms program to encourage 100,000 people to get mammograms by the end of October.

  • Industry mourns loss of former Costco exec Charles Burnett

    Charles “Charlie” Burnett, a longtime Costco pharmacy executive, passed away early in the morning on June 1, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced Friday. Burnett is being remembered for his work as a pharmacy pioneer who helped build and grow Costco’s pharmacy business. 

    During his lifetime, Burnett became the only person to win both of NACDS’ highest honors — the Sheldon W. Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award and the Harold W. Pratt Award.

  • Albertsons names Lupin’s InspiraChamber its preferred aerosol therapy chamber

    UMBAI, BALTIMORE and BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons and Lupin Pharmaceuticals announced a new partnership that would bring Lupin’s InspiraChamber to all of Albertsons’ banner pharmacies as the retailer’s preferred inhaled aerosol therapy chamber.

    The holding chamber will be available at the more than 1,7000 pharmacies in the 35 states that Albertsons operates, the companies said.
