    Prospective suppliers will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with ALDI buyers for opportunities in Texas and the southwestern U.S.

    ALDI is hosting a supplier engagement event at the new ALDI Rosenberg Divisional Distribution Center on Nov. 2 to meet with potential suppliers about the opportunity to become an ALDI partner.

  • HHS, Walgreens commit $10 million in free flu shots to uninsured

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with Walgreens, will help provide more than $10 million worth of free flu shot vouchers this flu season to improve flu immunization rates among uninsured Americans, Walgreens announced Thursday. Through the initiative, which is in its seventh year, Walgreens has provided more than $50 million worth of vouchers to communities across the country.

    CINCINNATI - Kroger on Friday reported net earnings of $383 million, or $0.40 per diluted share, and identical supermarket sales growth, without fuel, of 1.7% in the second quarter of 2016 ending Aug. 13.

  • Jo-Ann Stores names Fred’s, Walgreens vet to new exec role

    Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores has appointed Bryan Pugh to the newly created position of executive VP, stores and store operations. He will lead financial, operational and cultural leadership of Jo-Ann Stores.
       
    Pugh joins Jo-Ann from Fred’s Pharmacy & Super Dollar where he served as executive VP, chief merchandising and marketing officer. His experience also includes serving as senior VP, chief merchandising officer at Walgreen Co. in addition to several roles of increasing responsibility at Tesco.

  • Report: Publix begins installing chip card readers

    After lagging behind other retailers such as Target, Walmart and many others, Publix has begun installing chip card readers at its stores, according to the Lakeland Ledger. A Publix spokesman told the newspaper that the retailer waited about 10 months to begin its rollout of chip card readers out of a desire to be thorough. (Lakeland Ledger)

  • Kroger closes deal on acquistion of 2nd-largest independent specialty pharmacy

    PALO ALTO, Calif. - Altamont Capital Partners on Wednesday announced that its specialty pharmacy Modern Healthcare was successfully sold to Kroger.

    "We think Kroger is going to be a winner in the health and wellness market, and we are excited to see what they build from this point forward," commented Casey Lynch, Altamont managing director.   

  • WSJ: Target is restructuring its grocery business

    Target is building dedicated teams to manage the grocery sections of its stores as part of an effort to turn around declining sales in its food business, The Wall Stree Journal reports. A Target spokeswoman told the newspaper that new approach is part of an effort “to improve our offering, better cater to our guests and drive growth." (The Wall Street Journal)

  • Sam's Club September health screenings emphasize diabetes awareness

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. –  Sam’s Club on Thursday announced the offer of free health screenings on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., including glucose tests, while supplies last.
