  • Rhinomed's new snore-relief product Mute debuts in Walgreens, Duane Reade

    MELBOURNE, Australia - Rhinomed on Tuesday announced the U.S. debut of its Mute snoring and sleep technology in select Walgreens and Duane Reade stores across the U.S.

    Made from ultra-soft medical grade polymers, Mute is a new over-the-counter product developed by a team of specialists to alleviate the severity and incidence of snoring. Clinically proven to increase nasal air-flow during sleep by an average of 38% when compared to nasal strips, the discreet dilator fits into the nose and opens the airway.

  • Fred’s posts 8% total sales lift in Q1, 1% comps increase

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred’s on Thursday reported its earnings for the first quarter ended April 30, posting an 8% increase in total sales and a net income of $1.3 million. The company saw comparable store sales increase 1% for the first quarter, which is slightly better than the 0.8% increase in comps it posted in Q1 2015.

  • MinuteClinic launches digital tool that lets patients hold place in line

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic on Thursday announced the introduction of its new digital tool that allows patients to see wait times at most locations and hold a place in line using their smartphone, computer or tablet. 
     
    The service has launched for all MinuteClinics inside CVS Pharmacy Locations and Long Drugs in Hawaii, and the company plans to roll it out to Target-based clinics later this year. 
     
  • Comps steady in Costco’s Q3

    ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Costco on Thursday reported the results of its third quarter and the year-to-date sales, bringing in $26.15 billion in net sales during the quarter and $80.34 billion in sales so far this year.
     
    The company’s U.S. comparable store sales for the quarter saw a 0% increase and a 2% increase for the first 36 weeks of the year. Without the effects of gas price deflation and foreign exchange, quarterly comps were at 3% and YTD comps were at 4%.

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. -- Dollar General reported a 2.2% lift in same store sales for the first quarter as the discounter said sales of consumables led growth in the period.

  • Walgreens celebrates Red Nose Day by ringing Nasdaq Opening Bell

    NEW YORK — Walgreens VP corporate operations Skip Bourdo, alongside Comic Relief trustee Christy Gibb, literally rang in Red Nose Day 2016 — the charity’s annual fundraising campaign  to help children in the poorest areas of the U.S. and the world — by ringing the Opening  Bell at the Nasdaq Stock Market’s Times Square headquarters. Representatives from NBCUniversal and Mars Chocolate North America were also in attendance.
     
  • CVS Health’s Rx-free naloxone effort to reach 30 states by August

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health on Wednesday announced that its push to curb opioid overdose by providing overdose reversal drug naloxone without a prescription would hit 30 states by August through expansion to seven new states this summer. The initiative works by establishing a standing order with an in-state physician to allow pharmacists to dispense the drug to patients without individual prescriptions. The company has already begun dispensing naloxone in 23 states.
