  • CVS Caremark earns spot on reputable companies list

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark announced on Tuesday that it has been named as one of the most reputable companies in the United States in the 2011 Most Reputable Companies list published by Forbes magazine in partnership with the Reputation Institute.

    Of the 150 companies included in the survey, CVS Caremark ranked 30th.

    Survey respondents rated companies on financial performance, products and services, innovation, workplace, governance, citizenship and leadership.

  • Walgreens' March sales jump

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Tuesday reported March sales of $6.3 billion, an increase of 7.6%. Duane Reade stores, acquired in April 2010, contributed 280 basis points to the total sales increase for the month.

    Total front-end sales increased 8.4% in March, including 470 basis points from Duane Reade stores. Despite the negative impact of this year’s later Easter, which falls on April 24 compared with April 4 last year, comparable-store front-end sales increased 1.6%. Customer traffic in comparable stores increased 0.8%, while basket size increased 0.8%.

  • Walgreens' executive client forum emphasizes employer health programs

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Representatives from leading employers and payers met Monday to discuss the evolving role of employers in health care at the first Walgreens Employer Health and Wellness Executive Client Forum.

    The event features presentations from Walgreens executives on clinical outcomes data supporting the benefits of utilizing employer health programs beyond traditional services.

  • Walgreens: Customer email database was breached

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens this weekend reported that its customer email database, which is hosted by a third-party vendor, was accessed without permission.

    The drug store chain, which uses vendor Epsilon to deploy its email promotional messages, said that law enforcement authorities were notified and are investigating the matter. The company also emphasized that email addresses were the only information obtained in this incident.

  • Kmart reveals Hot 8 list for summer toys

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart has named the top eight toys for the summer.

    The toys on the Hot 8 list all are designed for outdoor use and are made by such brands as Power Wheels, Little Tikes and Fisher Price.

    This year's Hot 8 list includes:

  • Kroger discloses customer email breach

    CINCINNATI — A database that held the names and email addresses of Kroger customers has been breached, the retailer announced.

    The supermarket conglomerate said that the incident occurred at its third-party vendor, Epsilon, which manages Kroger's customer email database and communications.

    Kroger apologized to its customers and urged them not to open any messages from senders that they do not know, noting that Kroger would never ask for personal information (i.e., credit card or social security information) via email.

  • Retailers are king of customer experience

    NEW YORK — Retailers rank among the highest for their customer service, according to a new report by the Temkin Group.

    The consulting and research firm analyzed responses from 6,000 consumers, found that Amazon.com ranked No. 1 for providing an "excellent" customer experience, coming in with a ranking of 81.3%. A business qualifies for an "excellent" rating when their score is 80% or higher, Temkin said.

  • Safeway kicks off fundraising campaign for people with disabilities

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Friday announced the start of its companywide fundraising campaign for Easter Seals, Special Olympics, Rebuilding Together and a range of job training programs that help people with disabilities live fuller lives.
