  • Walmart, other industry groups raise concerns on proposed generic labeling rule

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — Walmart has joined almost two-dozen organizations from across the healthcare supply chain in a letter calling on the Food and Drug Administration to consider the public health impact of its Proposed Rule on pharmaceutical labeling.

  • Walmart secures technology startup Yumprint

    SAN BRUNO, Calif. — WalmartLabs, Walmart’s online and digital development division, has acquired Seattle-based recipe technology startup Yumprint to expand its online grocery delivery services.

    Yumprint has a website and mobile app to search and discover new recipes from thousands of food blogs, plan meals and calculate nutritional information.

    In a blog post, WalmartLabs credited Yumprint founders Chris Crittenden and Wes Dyer for their vision on how technology can improve how “all of consumers discover and prepare our meals.”

  • Nutrisystem gearing for national retail launch

    FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. — Nutrisystem will make a national retail launch in 2014, noted Dawn Zier, Nutrisystem president and CEO, during a conference call Wednesday. The company already has distribution through 2,500 Walmart locations and will be introducing its weight loss kits into Target in the second quarter.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam's Club has named David Badeen VP health care. Badeen will be responsible for pharmacy, OTC, optical and hearing centers, as well as third party contracting and pricing. In this new role, he will report directly to Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP health and wellness.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. —  Walmart knew fourth quarter results and its outlook would be weak so it gave investors Thursday morning something more substantial to digest by announcing plans to double the number of small format stores it will open this year and an increased omnichannel focus.
