  • Bartell family honored with 2016 'Washington Family Business Award Legacy' award

    SEATTLE — The Bartell family, owners of the Washington chain of Bartell Drugs stores, won the Seattle Business Magazine “2016 Washington Family Business Award for Legacy” presented at a special event held Wednesday night at the Westin Hotel.

    The Bartell family was in the running with a number of multi-generational, distinguished family business enterprises nominated from all over the state. Eleven other family enterprises (averaging over 77 years of continuous family ownership each) from across the state were also in contention for the award.

  • Diplomat named National Standard amid Michigan’s Top Workplaces

    FLINT, Mich. — The Detroit Free Press has recognized Diplomat Pharmacy as one a 2016 Top Workplaces National Standard, the company announced Thursday. 
     
    The results come from an employee survey administered by research firm WorkplaceDynamics. The survey measured such aspects of workplace culture as alignment, execution and connection. This is the third year in a row the company has made the Top Workplaces list, and its fourth overall, having received the recognition in 2012 as well. 
     
  • Biotech stocks drop after Trump promises to ‘bring down drug prices’

    NEW YORK — Biotech stocks closed largely down on Tuesday, following a day of trading that began with a 2.5% drop in the SPDR S&P Biotech XBI index. The XBI closed down 4.02% and iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF IBB closed down 2.94%. This is as the S&P closed up 1.32% and the Nasdaq closed up 1.14%.

    DSN has named Thrifty White Pharmacy its 2016 Pharmacy Innovator award winner. DSN publisher Eric Savitch and editor in chief/associate publisher Rob Eder presented the award to Thrifty White president and CEO Bob Narveson, COO Tim Weippert and key members of the company’s pharmacy leadership team at an exclusive reception at Minneapolis’ Butcher and the Boar restaurant.

  • KIND Foundation splits $1.1 million among 6 'Kind' activists

    NEW YORK -- The KIND Foundation – a 501c3 started by KIND Healthy Snacks – on Tuesday announced the winners of its philanthropic program, KIND People, and launched a storytelling series aiming to reveal the transformative power of kindness. Through the program, the Foundation is awarding $1.1 million to seven people who are championing inclusivity and serving as beacons of empathy in communities nationwide.     

  • Record number of Fortune 500 Cos. score '100' on 2017 Corporate Equality Index

    WASHINGTON —  The nation’s major companies are advancing in record numbers vital policies and practices to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workers around the world, according to the 2017 Corporate Equality Index released Monday by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization.

  • Monroe to receive NACDS Foundation Excellence in Patient Care award

    NEW YORK — Judith A. Monroe, M.D., FAAFP, president and CEO of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation, will be awarded the 2016 NACDS Foundation Excellence in Patient Care Award during the NACDS Foundation Dinner, taking place Dec. 1 at the Sheraton New York Times Square here.
