WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health is expanding the states participating in its apprenticeship program and set a new apprentice hiring goal. The company said it anticipates hiring 5,000 new apprentices by 2022 as it welcomes Arizona, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania to its program, bringing its total number of statewide programs to 18.

WASHINGTON — A former pharmaceutical industry executive who also served in the Dept. of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush has been nominated to lead the department. President Donald Trump on Monday named Alex Azar as his pick for secretary of health and human services.

Pfizer names COO

NEW YORK — Pfizer has named Albert Bourla COO, effective Jan. 1, 2018. The promotion of Bourla, who was most recently group president of the company’s Innovative Health business, is accompanied by the promotion of two others within the company. John Young will take over Bourla’s vacated position and Angela Hwang will the role of Pfizer Essential Health group president role left open by Young’s promotion, both effective Jan. 1, 2018.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has promoted two of its own financial executives to new positions. The company named Matt Schroeder senior vice president, chief accounting officer and treasurer, and named Brian Hoover group vice president and controller, effective immediately.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Wednesday announced the promotion of Richard Ashworth to president operations from his current role of president, pharmacy and retail operations.

"Effective immediately, Richard will bring his talent and tremendous experience to the leadership of all our critical operating functions with the new title of president of operations," the company stated in an internal memo.
