  • CVS honored for spending diversity

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health on Wednesday was recognized by Billion Dollar Roundtable, a corporate advocacy organization that promotes supply-chain diversity excellence, for reaching its goal of spending over $1 billion with diverse suppliers.

  • Dollar General to acquire 323 Dollar Express stores

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General will acquire all 323 Dollar Express discount stores in 36 states from its owner, private equity firm Sycamore Partners, the company confirmed to several media outlets. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    The Dollar Express stores, which still carry the Family Dollar moniker, will be rebranded to Dollar General. The 323 stores comprise most of the 330 stores sold to Sycamore in order to meet federal antitrust approval of Dollar Tree’s acquisition of Family Dollar in 2015. 

  • Rite Aid names Vote for Your Favorite Pharmacy Team Member Contest winners

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid announced Amanda Bourque, a Rite Aid pharmacy technician from Coventry, R.I., and JoAnn Lankford, a Rite Aid customer from Providence Forge, Va., were selected at random from more than 13,000 unique entries as the winners of its Vote for Your Favorite Pharmacy Team Member Contest. Established in 2003, the contest was designed to honor Rite Aid pharmacy associates for their commitment to providing outstanding customer care and service.

  • Edgewell Personal Care names COO

    ST. LOUIS — Edgewell Personal Care on Tuesday announced the appointment of Colin Hutchison to the role of COO. In his new role, Hutchison, who was most recently the company’s VP commercial international, will lead the Edgewell’s global business strategy and head up its global commercial marketing and operations organizations. He will report directly to chairman, CEO and president David Hatfield. 
     
  • Report paints hopeful picture for retail industry

    ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A just-released analysis of the U.S. retail sector offers positive news for an industry that has been subject to some gloomy assessments in recent times.

    Despite the rash of recent Chapter 11 filings and store closings, the U.S. retail sector as a whole remains incredibly strong and shows no signs of slowing down, according to a report by business intelligence firm Creditsafe USA.

  • Washington Spotlight: How Gorsuch could impact retail

    This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee considered the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court. Since vacancies on the bench are rare and the political stakes so high, few spectacles in Washington D.C. invite this level of drama. He was confirmed by the committee but when his nomination eventually goes to the floor of the Senate for a vote, the real fun will begin.   • Nestlé Waters North America names Mercé CEO

    STAMFORD, Conn. — Nestle Waters North America has named a new chief executive. Fernando Mercé has been named president and CEO and will now oversee all of Nestlé Waters North America’s U.S. and Canadian operations, as well as serve on Nestlé Waters’ board of directors.

  • Report: Supervalu combines Farm Fresh and Shoppers operations staff

    EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Supervalu combined the merchandising and operations staff of its Farm Fresh and Shoppers brand names, according to a report in The Virginian-Pilot.

    SuperValu spokesman Jeff Swanson told the newspaper on Thursday that 21 of 44 merchandising and operations positions in Virginia Beach, Va., were eliminated. He said a remaining 23 jobs in operations would stay in Hampton Roads, Va.
