  • CVS' new insurance bill pay service comes at critical time

    CVS Caremark has long stressed its commitment to reinventing pharmacy, and news of a bill pay service for health insurance premiums is in line with that mission and is yet another first that the trailblazer can add to its ever-growing list.

    As the article states, customers can now visit their local CVS/pharmacy to pay their health insurance premiums at no additional cost. CVS/pharmacy is the first national retail pharmacy to offer this service.

  • Retailers announce relief efforts to help those affected by Washington landslide

    NEW YORK — Looking to help those victims, families and communities affected by the devastating landslide that occurred in late March in Oso, Wash., several industry players have announced relief efforts.

    Among the retailers stepping up to the plate is Seattle-based Bartell Drugs. In conjunction with the Salvation Army, Bartell Drugs has announced that it is accepting donations to support ongoing relief efforts for those affected by the mudslide in Snohomish County.

  • Midway launches b4 hand sanitizer, pledges to donate half of profits to children's charities

    HOUSTON — In an effort to help parents combat germs that children may come in contact with on airline tray tables, public bathrooms, hotel remotes, touch screen kiosks and more, Midway developed a highly effective germ-fighting hand sanitizer and packaged the gel — called b4 — in small, single-use packets that are easy to carry in a wallet, pocket or small purse.  

    While the bold gel packet colors are fun for children and adults, the real b4 bonus comes down to charity — 50% of profits from the sale of b4 go toward children-focused causes.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Bad weather and a reduction in food stamps led to weaker-than-expected sales at Walmart and Sam’s Club, which — combined with greater than expected international expense — prompted an uncharacteristic preannouncement from the company that fourth quarter profits would be worse than expected.
