RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — In 2013, NBTY supported more than 30 organizations, including Feed The Children and International Aid, with nearly $7 million in products and money to provide sustenance, nutrition and support to those who need it most, the supplement manufacturer announced Thursday. 

NBTY's donations to Feed The Children are estimated to have reached almost 450,000 beneficiaries, the company stated.  

SAN DIEGO — According to a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, 120 million Americans will make New Year’s resolutions, with such health-related goals as quitting smoking topping the list. 

Unfortunately, most of those quitters will be puffing away by Groundhog Day.

NEW YORK — In two separate clinical trials, researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have found that periodic meetings with a lactation consultant encourages women traditionally resistant to breast-feeding to do so, at least for a few months, or long enough for mother and child to gain health benefits. The results of the trials were published online last week in American Journal of Public Health.

NEW YORK — Diabetes organizations in several cities are getting a boost in funding from a Danish drug maker that specializes in developing treatments for the disease.

Novo Nordisk said it would provide funding to groups in Seattle; Portland, Ore.; and Rochester, Minn., as part of the Novo Nordisk Community Care initiative. The initiative provides funding to nonprofits that support educational programs for people with Type 2 diabetes.

NEW YORK — While a vaccine against measles has been available for 50 years, the disease remains a threat in the United States, particularly when acquired by children entering the country from abroad, according to a new report.
