ATLANTA - Smoking among adults with mental illnesses is 70% higher than among those without them, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacy, the nation's largest Hispanic-owned drugstore, has donated $15,470 to the Centro Mater Foundation. The employee/corporate gift provides critical funding to ensure needy children can attend Centro Mater's summer camp program.

For 45 years, Centro Mater has provided care, education, nourishment, health services and after-school programs to children in Miami-Dade of every race, faith and nationality from 6 weeks to 12 years of age.

WASHINGTON — Most U.S. moms are concerned about breastfeeding in public even though they understand that breastfeeding is the best way to feed their babies, according to the 2012 Lansinoh Breastfeeding Study released Thursday. 

“Breastfeeding in public became one of the hottest publicly debated topics in 2012," stated Gina Ciagne, senior director, professional relations at Lansinoh. "We were interested to find out how that affected moms’ decisions to breastfeed.”

NEW YORK — An organization focused on inflammatory bowel disease has enlisted a star of "NYPD Blue," "Judging Amy" and "Private Practice" to raise awareness of the condition.

The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America hired actress Amy Brenneman, who has ulcerative colitis, one of two diseases that collectively make up IBD; the other is Crohn's disease. Both conditions are autoimmune diseases that cause discomfort and inflammation of the intestines and require frequent trips to the bathroom.
