  • Walgreens Boots Alliance sues Theranos for $140 million

    Walgreens Boots Alliance has filed a suit against Theranos seeking $140 million in damages. Walgreens filed the suit, Walgreen Co. v. Theranos Inc., U.S. District Court, District of Delaware, No. 16-01040 under seal, so the retailer did not issue a statement.

    However, the suit is likely regarding its June 12 announcement that Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreens was terminating its relationship and closing operations at all 40 Theranos Wellness Centers at its stores. 

  • Study: CLIA waivers can empower pharmacists to fill PCP care gap

    FAIRFAX, Va. - Pharmacists and lab technicians are capable of absorbing the additional health management responsiblities currently being created by the reduction in primary care physicians, according to a new study published by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the physician shortage could reach as high as a shortage of 20,000 primary care physicians by 2020.

    WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) responded Tuesday to the recently reached agreement between the the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP) and the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) to move the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist credential under the BPS portfolio of pharmacist certifications.

  • Survey: 76% of patients would seek out pharmacy with certified technicians

    WASHINGTON — The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board on Thursday shared the results of a survey that highlights the importance of certified pharmacy technicians, according to patients. The survey found that 85% of those surveyed believe it is very important for pharmacy technicians to be certified, and that 76% would seek out a new pharmacy if they knew the technicians in their current pharmacy weren’t certified.
