  • Texas to enable pharmacists to dispense naloxone

    AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Pharmacy Association last week announced the implementation of an expansive physician-authorized "standing order" regarding the dispensing of naloxone. Effective Aug. 1, the standing order will allow Texas pharmacists to dispense the fast-acting antidote for opioid overdose to patients.

  • APhA names prominent pharmacy educator president-elect for 2017-2018

    WASHINGTON - The American Pharmacists Association last week announced the election of Nicki Hilliard of Little Rock, Ark., as 2017–2018 APhA president-elect. Hilliard will succeed Nancy Alvarez of Lake Forest, Calif., to the office of APhA president on March 19, 2018, at the end of the 2018 APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Nashville, Tenn.

    Also elected to serve three-year terms on APhA’s board of trustees are Sandra Leal of Tucson, Ariz., and Randy McDonough, of Iowa City, Iowa. Both terms will begin in March 2017.

    WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Benzer Pharmacy announced Thursday that it had opened its newest location here at 700 1st St. South. The opening is the result of Benzer’s acquisition of Reliance Pharmacy and it marks the seventh new Benzer location this year. 
     
  • HDMA names Miller senior regulatory affairs director

    ARLINGTON, Va. — HDMA announced Monday that Ruth Miller would be the associations new senior director of regulatory affairs. Miller will be responsible for recommending policies and positions on federal regulatory approcals, particularly with regard to the Drug Enforcement Administration. 
     
  • New spending bill looks to push FDA on generics naming guidelines

    WASHINGTON —  The House Appropriations Committee on Friday released a new spending bill for the coming fiscal year, which provides additional funding for the FDA and contains language about how the Food and Drug Administration should finalize its guidance on generic drug and biosimilar naming.
