    WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association concluded its Annual Meeting and Exposition, APhA2016, on Monday, hosting almost 6,000 pharmacists and pharmacy students in Baltimore, Md. 
     
  • Ontario pharmacists look to expand role during Pharmacist Awareness Month

    TORONTO — March is Pharmacist Awareness Month in Canada, and in Ontario, local pharmacists are working to make sure Canadians know pharmacists can do more than fill prescriptions and help deliver on health outcomes, and pharmacy organizations are working to make sure pharmacists can offer as much as possible to patients. 
     
  • Robert Johnson, pharmacy innovator and industry staple, dies

    Robert Johnson, a highly regarded pharmacy educator, practitioner and pioneer in the field of pharmacy benefits management, died peacefully in his sleep March 2 after a long struggle with cancer.

    Johnson’s passing drew an outpouring of condolences from many of the pharmacy leaders who said they benefited from his counsel, friendship and guidance over a long career in pharmacy. A 1962 Masters of Science graduate of Wayne State University, he began his career in independent pharmacy, later serving in numerous state and national pharmacy organizations.

  • A reputation for honesty, trustworthiness

    In the nation’s hierarchy of most-trusted professions, where does the community pharmacist stand? Near the very top of the list.

    Again in 2015, pharmacists ranked second only to nurses among all professions in Gallup’s annual Honesty and Ethics survey. That makes the 13th year in a row that Americans have ranked pharmacists among the top three of all professions in terms of trustworthiness and ethical standards.

  • Diplomat launches pharmacy tech certification program

    FLINT, Mich. — Diplomat Pharmacy announced Thursday that the Michigan Board of Pharmacy approved the company to offer a pharmacy technician training program with on-site exams. The program, which is offered exclusively to Diplomat employees, allows employees who complete it and the exam to be considered for state licensure. 
     
  • APhA launches opioid resource center

    WASHINGTON - In its ongoing work to curb the prescription drug and opioid abuse epidemic, the American Pharmacists Association announced Tuesday the launch of a resource center to serve as a one-stop shop for pharmacists interested in learning more about opioid use, abuse and misuse. The resource center will help educate pharmacists by identifying learning opportunities, highlighting clinical and patient resources and identifying tools that are useful when working with patients who are prescribed opioids.
