    WASHINGTON — The foundation on which the Council for Responsible Nutrition is basing its Congressional outreach this year is based on three elements: Incorporating dietary supplementation into the bedrock of any federal policy that promotes health and wellness; highlighting the many ways the dietary supplement industry is seeking to augment government oversight through self-regulation initiatives; and enjoining Congressional leaders to participate in an ongoing dialogue with VMS industry.

  • PhRMA names new leads on state advocacy, strategic alliances

    WASHINGTON — The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America has announced leadership changes to some of its advocacy efforts as longtime SVP advocacy Jeff Bond is set to retire. The organization named SVP Scott LaGanga as head of PhRMA state advocacy, assuming Bond’s responsibilities. Shannon Graham has been named SVP and will lead PhRMA’s advocacy and strategic alliances program. 
     
  • Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart and Target oppose Border Adjustment Tax

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than 100 retailers and trade associations, including Walgreens Boots Alliance, Rite Aid, Walmart and Target, have joined the Americans for Affordable Products coalition in an effort to stop the Border Adjustment Tax, otherwise known as BAT, which is a component of the U.S. House Republican tax reform proposal.

The Generic Pharmaceutical Association has been front and center, touting the benefits that generics bring for lawmakers, payers and, most importantly, patients. Drug Store News spoke with GPhA president and CEO Chip Davis about the organization’s efforts in 2016 and plans for the remainder of 2017.

  • Trump meets with pharma execs at White House

    WASHINGTON — Executives from several pharmaceutical companies and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America convened at the White House Tuesday for a meeting with President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore. The president kicked off the meeting by mentioning the price of drugs and the need for competition in the marketplace. 
     
  • Report: Generics bill introduced in House

    Sunshine State News is reporting that U.S. Reps. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., and Kurt Schrader, D-Ore., have introduced the Lower Drug Costs Through Competition Act, which is aimed at encouraging generics makers to develop generics of products with little or no competition, or for drugs that are in short supply. The bill calls for the creation of a Priority Review Voucher for generics applications filed for drugs that have no current competition. The bill was referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee Monday, and eight representatives have signed on.
