  • Daily rate for Redbox DVD rentals to increase

    BELLEVUE, Wash. — Shoppers that take advantage of Redbox rentals should expect to see a change in price.

    Redbox's parent company Coinstar on Thursday said that the daily rate for standard DVD rentals will increase 20 cents to $1.20. Prices for Blu-ray format movie rentals and for video game rentals, however, will not change and continue to be $1.50 and $2, respectively.

  • 'Winnie the Pooh' arrives on Blu-ray, DVD

    NEW YORK — An all-new animated feature film starring the beloved characters of Hundred Acre Wood has arrived on Blu-ray combo pack, DVD and digital download.

    “Winnie the Pooh” brings back to life the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes and characters, including Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo and Eeyore, Walt Disney Studios said. Additionally, the Blu-ray combo pack features exclusive animated shorts, a sing-along viewing option, an informative behind-the-scenes featurette and deleted scenes with director commentary.

  • Orbit teams up with Bright Pink

    CHICAGO — Orbit gum has teamed up with a nonprofit breast cancer prevention organization to encourage young women to be proactive about their breast health.

    As part of the partnership, Orbit and Bright Pink have developed the "Pledge to Protect Your Chest" shareable online commitment tool on Facebook, where users can examine a checklist that features ways to be proactive about breast health.

  • Darrell Johnson named Heineken USA senior director of regional marketing

    WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Heineken USA has appointed a new senior director of regional marketing.

    In his new role, Darrell Johnson will work with brand marketing, trade marketing activation and the regional marketing directors to develop a strategy and process for local programming that ensures consistent execution against national brand strategy at the local level, the company said.

    Johnson will report to Heineken VP trade marketing and sales strategy Kheri Tillman.

  • Whole Foods touts kosher offerings

    AUSTIN — Whole Foods is taking the opportunity to reach out to its Jewish consumers by reminding them that it has a number of kosher-certified items for Hannukah, which begins Dec. 20.

    The retailer is touting its availability of whole organic turkeys, pumpkin puree and roasted chestnuts to latkes, matzo meal and Hanukkah gelt (chocolate coins).

    Specifically, Whole Foods is offering:

    • Potato pancake, whole wheat matzo meal, latkes, natural cake, stuffing and soup mixes from Streit's, a family-owned purveyor of kosher food since 1925;

  • Third, fourth volumes of 'The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes' debut on DVD

    NEW YORK — Two volumes of an animated series based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers has arrived on Disney DVD.

    Walt Disney Studios has launched "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Vo1. 3: Iron Man Unleashed" and "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Vo1. 4: Thor's Last Stand" on DVD. In each episode, the Avengers defend Earth from such threats as dangerous super villains, time-travelling conquerors, alien invaders and mythical beasts.

  • Cepia's Xia-Xia line makes holiday season debut

    ST. LOUIS — The maker of ZhuZhu Pets has introduced a new line of toys for this holiday season.

    Cepia said Xia-Xia (pronounced "shah-shah") consists of four colorful, collectible hermit crabs that dance and play. The line also includes playsets and accessories, the company said.

  • Harvest orange tomato soup joins Campbell's lineup

    CAMDEN, N.J. — Campbell's new soup puts a spin on a classic favorite.

    The soup brand said harvest orange tomato soup — developed by Thomas Griffiths, senior executive chef and director of Campbell’s Culinary and Baking Institute — features a blend of herbs and spices, including sage and rosemary and a touch of roasted garlic, which brings out the natural flavors of orange tomatoes. It is one of 35 new products being introduced by the company's U.S. soup and simple meals business.
