    BRAINTREE, Mass. — The NuVal nutritional scoring system is celebrating National Nutrition Month by highlighting foods that receive some of its highest scores by category.

    One food will be showcased for each day of National Nutrition Month, with each "item of the day" displayed on the company's website.

  • Hello Kitty gets sweet treatment

    NEW YORK — Taste of Nature is rolling out Hello Kitty-branded candies this spring.

    The lineup includes Hello Kitty sprinkle cupcake treats, Hello Kitty chocolate brownie treats and Hello Kitty chocolate chip cookie dough treats — which are all available in 3.1-oz. theater boxes — as well as Hello Kitty cotton candy, which contains two flavors in each bag: blue raspberry and pink vanilla.

    The Hello Kitty theater boxes and cotton candy carry a suggested retail price range from $1.29 to $1.49.

  • ConAgra Foods taps recording artists for annual Child Hunger Ends Here campaign

    OMAHA, Neb. — ConAgra Foods has kicked off its third annual childhood hunger awareness campaign, which is supported by an original song, exclusive video content, a social media influencer campaign and the company's brands.

    ConAgra said it seeks to meet its goal of donating five million meals this school year, which complements the ConAgra Foods Foundation's $10 million, five-year commitment to domestic hunger-relief organization Feeding America.

    Inspired by Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire, these mango habanero chips are seasoned with the fiery heat of habanero peppers and the sweetness of mangoes.

  • Rite Aid category manager wins National Confectioners Association award

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — A Rite Aid category manager has won a top award from a trade association representing candy makers.

    Rite Aid said Monday that Val Stansfield had received the 2012 Confectionary Leadership Award from the National Confectioners Association. The award is given to people who demonstrate "exemplary leadership behaviors in business planning and collaboration," the company said. Stansfield was 1-of-3 recipients at the NCA's State of the Industry Conference last week in Miami.

    PURCHASE, N.Y. — Lipton is supporting its Lipton 100% Natural ready-to-drink bottled iced tea and new Lipton Tea and Honey iced tea mixes with a new campaign.

    The "Drink Positive" campaign, which features Grammy Award-winning trio Lady Antebellum, includes national TV, print, radio, digital, exclusive online content, retail integration and a consumer promotion. In line with the campaign, Lipton is giving away a number of Lipton Tea and Honey samples one the product's website.

    OAKLAND, Calif. — Numi Organic Tea has introduced five new tea blends to its existing lineup of Pu-erh organic tea.

    Coconut, cardamom, basil mint, jasmine and ginger flavors join the emperor's and chocolate Pu-erh teas. All of Numi's tea blends are 100% organic and are made with premium, full-leaf tea and real fruit, herbs and spices.
