    HARRISBURG, Pa. — Ronzoni has developed an easy-to-prepare pasta line.

    New Ronzoni Pasta Portions come in single-serving, boil-in-bag pouches that cook in three minutes. Available in three varieties, including curly elbow, penne and rotini, each box comes with three 3-oz. pouches of dry pasta, making 1.25 cups of perfectly cooked pasta per bag.

    Ronzoni Pasta Portions are available in Northeast supermarkets and Walmart stores nationwide, and carry a suggested retail price range $1.32 to $1.65.

  • Tobacco companies sue FDA over mandate of new, graphic no-smoking packaging images

    GREENSBORO, N.C. — Five tobacco companies filed suit against the Food and Drug Administration challenging nine new cigarette warnings as an unconstitutional way of forcing tobacco manufacturers to disseminate the government's anti-smoking message.

    Under the FDA's recently announced regulation, cigarette packs and cartons and all cigarette advertising must display new graphic warnings by Sept. 22, 2012. The suit seeks a preliminary injunction to stay the effective date of the regulation and a declaration that the regulation is unconstitutional.

    VALHALLA, N.Y. — Balance Bar on Wednesday launched Nimble, a meal-replacement bar for women that combines beauty and nutrition. Fortified with antioxidants, beta-carotene and 10 mg of FloraGlo Lutein, Nimble provides nutrients for healthy skin and seven ingredients ideal for women: protein (10 g), fiber (5 g), calcium, iron, folate, and vitamins D and B6.

    Nimble is sweetened with Truvia rebiana, a zero-calorie sweetener made from the stevia leaf. With 120 calories per bar, Nimble is available in two flavors: peanut butter and yogurt orange swirl.

    ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Bertolli is serving up a new line of hearty soups in the freezer aisle.

    New Bertolli premium meal soups for two feature tender chicken and beef, pasta, herbs and vegetables, and are packaged in 24-oz. containers.

    Bertolli premium meal soups for two are available in four varieties — chicken minestrone, roasted chicken and rotini pasta, tomato florentine and tortellini with chicken, and Tuscan-style beef with vegetables — at grocery retailers nationwide, including Walmart and Target.

  • Reports: Walgreens launches new line of store-brand food items

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens recently launched a private-label line of food items to be called Nice!, according to published reports.

    The initial products include dried fruit, white rice, baking soda, canned soup, tomato sauce, tea bags and a macaroni and cheese offering. The new store brand is being marketed by way of in-store point-of-purchase material, including ceiling banners, wing displays and play on the pharmacy's in-store radio.
