  • Q&A: Nutrisystem emphasizes nutrition’s role in diabetes management

    For years now Nutrisystem has provided a comprehensive nutrition solution at retail that diabetes consumers can use to better manage their condition. Drug Store News recently checked in with David Burton, executive vice president of operations and retail at Nutrisystem, to explore how that proposition has been trending at retail and to uncover any new product offerings coming down the pipeline.     PRINCETON, N.J. — Major portions of the American population with diabetes believe that their care requires much more than medicine, including emotional support and lifestyle management, and that diabetes care reimbursement needs to be broadened, according to a Novo Nordisk survey published Wednesday.

  • CVS Health offers diabetes management support for American Diabetes Month

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health is marking American Diabetes Month by emphasizing efforts patients can undertake to manage their conditions, as well as the services the company offers to make diabetes management easier.

    The company said patients with diabetes should manage their diet and engage in a healthy lifestyle — including at least 30 minutes of exercise daily — in an effort to manage their blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol. CVS pharmacists also can offer information and product suggestions to aid lifestyle management, CVS Health said.

    BETHESDA, Md. — For the more than 30 million people in the U.S. with diabetes, the director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases division of the National Institutes of Health urged people to eat better as part of a best practice in taking care of their condition.

    LANDOVER, Md. — Ahold's Giant Food on Monday announced the deployment of a National Diabetes Prevention Program, PreventT2, utilizing in-store nutritionists as lifestyle coaches to help prevent type 2 diabetes diagnoses across the patients they serve. Groups of participants are learning the skills they need to make lasting changes such as eating better, losing a modest amount of weight, being more physically active and managing stress, the grocer noted.

    OAK BROOK, Ill. — Retractable Technologies earlier this month won the Drug Store News/ECRM Buyers’ Choice Award for its VanishPoint syringes, blood collection products, and IV catheters during the recent ECRM Diabetes/Clinical Programs, Chronic Care Management & Adherence Solutions EPPS, held here.
