  • Meijer launches complimentary Wi-Fi service in its stores

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Digital coupon use is at an all-time high with more than 2 million Meijer shoppers now subscribed to the free mPerks program, and Meijer has made significant investments to make digital savings easier for its customers, the supermarket retailer announced Tuesday.  

    The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer now has free Wi-Fi capability in all its stores, making it easier for customers to access their mPerks accounts and the Meijer mobile app, freeing up their smartphone data plans for other uses.

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — With cases of influenza rising across the Midwest, mass-merchandise retailer Meijer is participating in a new study by offering free testing for flu and strep throat at its stores in Michigan and allowing its pharmacists to dispense prescription drugs as necessary under a protocol developed by a physician who's also involved, the 204-store chain said Wednesday.

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Men’s grooming line, HYD For Men, has announced that its Razor Shield will be sold in 183 Meijer stores beginning in February.

    Razor Shield was developed to help create a liquid barrier to protect razor blades.

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — A national gay-rights organization has given Walgreens top marks for its practices related to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

    In its 2014 Corporate Equality Index, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation gave the Deerfield, Ill.-based retail pharmacy chain a "perfect" score of 100. 2014 is the ninth year that Walgreens has won a perfect score.

  • Meijer to match donations to program for food pantries 2-to-1

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer will match donations to a program to provide food for poor families later this month to mark the program's fifth year, the mass merchandiser said.

    The Midwestern retailer said it would match two-to-one every customer's $10 Simply Give donation made between Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 to celebrate the program's five years of existence. The program has generated more than $6.5 million for local food pantries, equal to 39 million meals. One-in-six families in the country is considered food-insecure, according to Feeding America.
